Ever since I downgraded Windows 10 to Windows 7 (clean install) I have been having issues with the power management system. My laptop did not work unless it was plugged in. If it ran on battery only it worked for a while and then freezed and I had to to a force shutdown. If I booted it up without plugging it in first I would get a black screen right after the "Welcome" screen. I was hoping that I would run into a BSOD soon (you don't hear that every day) so that the problem could become a little more obvious. I'm not good at reading dump files, so I need somebody to help me with that. I have attached the DM log collector log. Should I enable driver verifier and try to stress test the drivers?

Please run the DM Log Collector again, there several files missing.
Before uploading, check if the content is at least
  • 18 .txt,
  • 1 .nfo,
  • 1 or more dump files
If this is NOT the case, try booting in safe mode and run the tool again.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

34700d1440923396-bsod-0x124-whea_uncorrectable_error-nothing-works-a887c9d9e7.png

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Did what you told me to do and no freezing or crashing so far (30 minutes). Usually the problems started a minute or two after unplugging the laptop so it's probably fixed. But nevertheless I find it strange that the manufacturer provided drivers were causing the crashes.

These drivers were just old, that could cause crashes with the changes that are regularly made in Windows.

I tested my laptop during the weekend and it seemed to work just fine while not plugged in, until yesterday... The issue is once again preventing me to boot up or use the computer while runnning on battery power. I have checked the graphics driver versions just in case if an automatic updated was excecuted, but the driver version was the same as when I fixed the problem. Do you have any idea on how to fix this issue? I want to trigger another BSOD, but I wasn't able to do so, because the computer just frezees when I unplug it. Should I start verifier.exe? Should I test it when plugged in or running off battery power?

I have tried running task manager and cpu-z when unplugging, but everything freezes 2-3 seconds after unplugging. The mouse works for about 5 seconds (I can move it around the screen, but nothing is responding to clicking) and then everything is completly frozen.

I just removed and reinstalled the intel graphics driver and replaced the previous one from intels site with the one provided by dell and it seems to be working. I think the problem might not be in the driver itself but an automatic update or a config that happens after the first restart after the reinstall. I will report if something starts happening again.

Due to your system specs not correct I gave you wrong instructions.
I should have first verified your model, but I was and still am quite busy :(

With laptops, you should only install drivers from your manufacturer(Dell).
