Hello everyone,

My computer has recently been having BSOD problems. For the past month it has been happening infrequently, but I have been gaming(Maplestory) on it more recently, and it has BSOD'd six times yesterday. Here are the files from the diagnostic tool.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Erik

Welcome to SevenForums.

Bugcheck E1 and McAfee are very common.

Problematic software
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\McAfee	Public:Start Menu\Programs\McAfee	Public
Start Menu\Programs\McAfee Security Scan Plus	Public:Start Menu\Programs\McAfee Security Scan Plus	Public

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD crashes, consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and keep Microsoft Security Essentials only at least to test. BTW, keeping two antiviruses would cause conflicts anyway.

System Optimisers
Please remove the following software
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Norton PC Checkup 3.0	Public:Start Menu\Programs\Norton PC Checkup 3.0	Public
Start Menu\Programs\Norton Security Scan	Public:Start Menu\Programs\Norton Security Scan	Public

This software can be cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. Microsoft have improved Windows 7 significantly and it is much better at organising and optimising itself than its predecessors. Check this, this and this thread for evidence.

If you feel the need to use a registry cleaning or optimisation software, most of us recommend the use of CCleaner but make sure you back up the registry before making letting ccleaner delete anything.

Please uninstall them with the free version of Revo Uninstaller in Advanced Mode. (Reboot he computer if you are asked to)

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

  • Click on the :orb:
  • Type CMD on Search
  • Left click and Run as Administrator
  • Type SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:
Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:
Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed.
Update the graphic card driver:
Code:
Driver	c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys (8.14.1.6214, 302.50 KB (309,760 bytes), 14/12/2011 4:10 AM)
Update the sound card driver:
Code:
Driver	c:\windows\system32\drivers\rtkvhd64.sys (6.0.1.6141, 2.29 MB (2,399,848 bytes), 14/12/2011 4:08 AM)
Let us know the results.
