Hi everybody,

This is my first post and I usually speak french, so sorry if my english isn't really good.

I have a BSOD at start up. Sometime, I am able to start windows in Safe mode but not always. My computer is a Gateway and I have the windows that came already in it. My computer is something like 1 week before the end of the warranty but Gateway are juste able to tell me to format it. I would like to repair it without loosing everything I have in it. Any Clues? I was able to start whocrashed and here is what it told me:

windows version: Windows 7 , 6.1, build: 7600
windows dir: C:\Windows
CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Turion(tm) II Dual-Core Mobile M500 AMD586, level: 16
2 logical processors, active mask: 3
RAM: 4024795136 total

I'm admittedly not that great with dump files, but what I'm seeing is a failure in
amdsata.sys / AtBroker.exe

This could be caused if your volume shadow copy service is not running.
Sadly that is the only cause I know off hand.

Maybe it's my english or maybe it's my computer knowledge but I really don't know what is the shadow copy service and how I can make it run.

Anyway, I will soon be able to post the other files some of you may need.

right click my computer , then choose manage, when that window opens on the left hand side at the bottom click services and applications, then in the window on the right double click services. Scroll until you locate the volume shadow copy service. Right click it, and choose start. Then right click it again go to properties and change the startup type to automatic (delayed start) using the drop down menu.

I'm not 100% this will fix your problem, but it won't hurt anything either.

Jubin, thank you for the dump files and I will look at them. Please follow the instructions in this tutorial and upload all of the files to us.

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

I looked at your four most recent dumps. All four blame Windows system files, which are very unlikely to be the real cause.
Bugcheck 3D, (2X), INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. BSOD Index.

Bugcheck A (2X), IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Usual causes: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility.
Because I do not have all of the files, I do not know what antivirus program you are running; so I can't address that. I do find out of date drivers loaded on your system. Outdated drivers can and do cause BSOD's. The one in bold font is quite obsolete; it is an XP driver. Update the following drivers through the links privided. If there is no update, uninstall the software/hardware the drivers are associated with.
amdsata.sys Tue Apr 28 19:33:25 2009 - AMD AHCI 1.2 Device Driver. AMD.com | Support & Downloads.

I know ;) The problem is that here, I only have internet on a phoneline and I'm trying like hell to upload them but without succes. My connection just go off. I will try again. It's just that the files are 2 megs and it's seem to be hard on my connection. That's why I posted from my job earlier ;)

I will try in another post.

That will work. And if you can't upload them. we will do the best we can with what we have.

Since you are on a dialup connection, it is very important to update those modem drivers. If there are no updates, you will need to upgrade to modem that is Win 7 compatible. You might want to download your all of driver updates from another computer with a broadband connection and burn them to a CD. Then install them on your computer.

Thank, Jubin; these files help. At this point, I think most of your problems are caused by outdated drivers. In addition to those I listed previously, you have a few more. But I suggest that you update those I listed first in this order of priority:

1. amdsata.sys Tue Apr 28 19:33:25 2009 - AMD AHCI 1.2 Device Driver. AMD.com | Support & Downloads. All of your dumps blame this driver.

2. Update your modem drivers. If there are no updates available, purchase a new modem certified compatible with Win 7. Install it and uninstall your current modem. Since you are on dialup, this is crucial.
CAX_CNXT.sys Fri Feb 13 16:19:32 2009 - Conexant Modem Audio. Conexant: Support
CAX_DPV.sys Fri Feb 13 16:24:50 2009 - Conexant Modem. Conexant: Support
CAXHWAZL.sys Fri Feb 13 16:20:54 2009 - Conexant Modem. Conexant: Support
mdmxsdk.sys Mon Jun 19 17:27:26 2006 - Conexant Modem Diagnostic Interface x86 Driver. Conexant: Support. This one is an XP driver and will not work well with Win 7.
XAudio64.sys Wed Apr 29 14:21:07 2009 - Conexant Modem Audio Conexant Modem Audio. Conexant: Support.

3. usbfilter.sys Fri Apr 03 07:39:51 2009 - AMD USB Filter Driver (likely part of the chipset drivers). AMD.com | Support & Downloads.

4. UBHelper.sys Mon Apr 27 04:48:19 2009 - NTI CD & DVD-Maker or NTI Backup NOW! or NTI CD-Maker by NewTech Infosystems (usually in Acer Empowering Technology). OEM none at NTI - Support - OEM Resources - DVD Burning Software, Data Backup Software, CD Burning, Blu-ray Burning Software - Official Site. If you cannot update this driver, uninstall the NTI software. It is obsolete. Upgrade to software compatible with Win 7.

Generally speaking, the "magic" date for third party drivers compatibility with Win 7 is 13 July 2009. There are exceptions to this. Windows 7 is a totally new operating system. It is not an evolution from XP and it is different even from Vista. Hardware and software designed for XP will not run on Win 7 unless the manufactures have update them to be compatible. Many time the manufacturers choose not to go to the expense of designing and writing new new driver code for which they get no monetary return. They would rather sell new software and hardware. I suggest you look through your system for any older software that you ran on XP. Upgrade this older software or uninstall it. For example, if you are running an XP version of Adobe Acrobat, uninstall it and upgrade to the latest version. The same applies to hardware. If you cannot find updated drivers for your modem, you need to uninstall your current modem and install a new one compatibly with Win 7.

I didn't manage to find and install every drivers you told me. I had go to the gateway site and download every NV53 drivers I could find there. It didn't work. Now, I am not able to start in Safe mode. I'll try again and post a new report to see if some of you can find anything. Thanks again!

Are you still running mcaffe? because I'm still seeing it's sys files and drivers in the report.

I only bring this up because third party av's just don't seem to work with win 7 on some system configurations. It's possible removing it could solve your problem which seems to be more and more general in nature as I see more and more reports.
