Hello sevenforums,

This is the second time I'm here for a BSOD and since you helped me fix the first one I will give you guys another shot at it :)

My computer isn't the newest anymore and playing GTA V on it is pushing the video ram really hard. Sometimes it will crash but a lot of people have problems with that so that's not where I'm here for. The problem is that from time to time the game and whole computer will freeze and I have to hard reset. Since today it started happening more frequently and adding a BSOD with KERNAL_DATA_PAGE_ERROR. Now it will even crash randomly on the desktop (I was just doing a CHKDSK and it happened but fortunately everything still works).

I have included the ZIP of the DM Log collector.

With kind regards,

Tom

Hello TtomtomT, I will see if I can help you. First you are getting a lot of errors from the Asus AI Suite. I would suggest you uninstall it and then run the AI Suite cleaner asus ai suite removal - Bing

You had 3 dump files and all said the exact same thing

Code:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (7a)
The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. Typically caused by
a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error. Also see
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR.
[COLOR=red]If the error status is 0xC000000E, 0xC000009C, 0xC000009D or 0xC0000185,[/COLOR]
[COLOR=red]it means the disk subsystem has experienced a failure.[/COLOR]
If the error status is 0xC000009A, then it means the request failed because
a filesystem failed to make forward progress.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffff6fc40042030, lock type that was held (value 1,2,3, or PTE address)
Arg2: ffffffffc0000185, error status (normally i/o status code)
Arg3: 000000011b66dbe0, current process (virtual address for lock type 3, or PTE)
Arg4: fffff88008406000, virtual address that could not be in-paged (or PTE contents if arg1 is a PTE address)

Debugging Details:
------------------

[COLOR=red]ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000185 - The I/O device reported an I/O error[/COLOR].

Please run the short and the long Seatools for DOS tests http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/313457-seatools-dos-windows-how-use.html#Part3 on your Mechanical hard drives. Make sure your Firmware is up to date on your SSD and that it is functioning properly.

Thanks for your reply,

The SSD firmware is up tot date. I keep forgetting to do a HDD test at night but will do tonight. AI Suite has crashed a couple of times but I removed it...still starting up at boot...weird. Will look into it later this day.

AI Suite is very difficult to remove. If you can use the Cleaner I linked to, it will help. When you have time run the Seatools test, but just on the Mechanical drives. It won't work on the SSD.

I've done all basic tests with SeaTools and they all passed on the HDD with GTA 5 installed on it. I also removed AI Suite II. Should I do a CHKDSK?

The disk check said that everything is fine. I will see if the bluescreen occurs again and post dumps again. It may have been the AI suite, or isn't that possible?

Sure, that's very possible. Just let me know and we'll see what the dump file says, if you have another. If it doesn't BSOD, let me know about that too.

New one after playing GTA for 15 minutes. It seems that it happens more often when I drive fast (loading new area) or collide into something (crash animation). Log is attached again. I'm thinking about installing the game on my other 2T HDD and see if it also happens there.

Thanks, please do either way. Also, if you are overclocking anything, please set everything to default levels. I'm not opposed to overclocking, in fact I'm rather notorious here about it and am overclocked right now. But, when dealing with an unstable system, it makes debugging it almost impossible.

I would also suggest using the most current Precision X and monitoring temps, and ram usage while playing games. I monitor core frequency, temps, fan speed and ram usage. There is the possibility of you running out of Vram with GTA. I don't play GTA but it seems a lot of people are having problems with it.

I have tried over clocking but set everything back because of errors. I have checked my ram and temperatures a lot already with GTA. I am sure that I don't have enough vram maybe because that it uses HDD space (does it? Or just ram? Ram is never full btw) the error occurs.

I honestly don't know if it uses hard drive space if it runs out of ram, but I would assume it does or uses system ram. But I do know that every time you change maps it is continually reading from the hard drive and writing to it. If you don't have any problems with any other games, it is very possible it could be the game itself. I have had a few games like that. It is a sad fact that many of the games are poorly coded, thus the reason for all the patches and updates we get these days. I have had some games I just uninstalled because of that.

    Hard Drives
    1 TB NVME
I switched the SATA Cable and port of the HDD with GTA on it, so not windows, with the one of the disk driver I never use. Problem still occuring, but even when I tried to close notepad yesterday. Should I switch the cable of the SSD too?

This BSOD stuff I have very little knowledge about, I don't want to interfere but:

- If this is mostly connected to GTA V it may very well be you are getting out of RAM
- I used to get BSOD/crashes when I didn't have a pagefile assigned.
- Check what kind of pagefile is setup, adjust it to, say, 10GB fixed and see what happens.

Just some ideas, hope you get your problems sorted.

Thank you for your reply.

Pagefile was set to system control. It's on 12252 now (recommended), but my SSD? with windows on it AND my HDD have a pagefile it says..is that normal? Shouldn't it only be on the SSD? It's not the HDD with GTA btw.

You can have a pagefile on any drive. A pagefile on SSD causes too much writes though so I reduced SSD pagefile to 600MB (enough to make a kernel dump, otherwise you get volmgr errors in event viewer) and HDD pagefile to 10GB. Ask in the Hardware section before changing this and see what others say about it.

But yeah, I keep an eye on my ram a lot when playing the game and it isn't the problem as far as I know, so also the pagefile shouldn't be a problem.
