BSOD on registry defrag

WHen I run the registry defrag that comes with auslogics boost speed on win 7 rc1 x64, it gives me the blue screen of death. Is this because 7's registry is different from vista's?

The registry on 7 has changed much (if at all) over that of Vista. Possibly, you're getting the BSOD because Auslogics BoostSpeed has not been Windows 7 certified.

Can you tell me what the BSOD name and code is, and does it specify any possible driver filenames?

I personally wouldn't run programs that could potentially alter critical system files or entries until the developer states its Windows 7 compatible.

Each version of Windows will have many differences in registry enteries and programs not meant for that OS could alter or delete important information.

Well after i got the BSOD I had to reinstall, as it kept blue screening when I tried to boot it up, so I couldn't tell you the codes. I was just curious as to what might have caused it, and I've steered clear of the registry defrag ever since. Losing an entire installation is not fun

Seriously, Windows is quite capable of dealing with its own registry without 3rd party app's trying to guess what might be wrong. If you have hammered it that much that you notice a difference then it's a reinstall of Windows IMHO.

These app's cause more probs than they actually solve.

You are exactly right. Registry wasn't really designed to be 'defragged' via 3rd Party Tools, so any program that does perform a defrag upon the registry could EASILY make one mistake and ruin your entire installation.

Any time I notice that my laptop is slower then usual, and a defragmentation of the hard drive doesn't solve it.. I just reinstall and back to speedyness I go

I've never necessarily notice a performance increase from running registry defrags, I just do it as maintenance along with disk defrags and cleanups once or twice a week. But since that happened, I'm not so sure I'll be letting third party apps touch my registry any time soon.

Use "advanced systemcare" which is already windows 7 compliant. I have no issues with it doing registry cleaning.

My comments may kick off a major argument but why chance your important files, saved games and general everyday going-on's over something that 'may' slightly speed up your system or just kill it out-right.

With each 64bit Windows 7 leak I have upgraded (which everyone here seems to say NOOO to!) but my measly PC with 2gb ram is still going and I can play most games etc. that I care to throw at it.

registry defrag is never recommended

it ends in prob than solving it!!!
most reg cleaner doesnt do the job neatly!!

reinstalling is best option always

At the end of the day it has to be your choice with reg defrag's, but I learn't the hard way. I soon got fed up of re-formatting or trying to solve stupid little errors that shouldn't have been happening to start with.

If your system becomes slower than usual or it starts doing weird stuff, chances are it's something more serious than just your registry.

My friend's brother told him to microwave his hard drive and it will make it a 1TB (his brother likes to joke, and my friend is very gullible) I went to his house as he was typing the numbers in the microwave I saw the HDD and was like 'STOP!!!!'
