Hello,

I'm new here and would very much appreciate anybody's help.

I have had a recurring BSOD problem over the past few months which I'm able to stop after a bit of amateur fiddling around, but the source of the problem is still clearly present as it always seems to return after a month or so of use.

To get passed it most recently (yesterday), I did a few minor things, but think it may well have just been the error check that helped.

I have followed the instructions to making a post here and have attached the zip file that was generated.

I would be most grateful for any advice.

Cheers, Alex.

STOP 0x00000051: REGISTRY_ERROR

Usual causes: Hardware failure, File system corruption, Security issues
Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.

Let us know the results. If nothing found, we have to concentrate on hardware tests.

All three of the tasks were passed without any problems.

It may be worth mentioning that I've been experiencing an occasional problem when connecting devices via usb - the computer begins to run extremely slowly, programs stop functioning properly and the laptop freezes on the shutting down/logging off screen when I try to restart. There is no specific device which causes this problem. I'd say it happens about 10-20% of the time I use the usb ports.

Also, my screen can be quite temperamental on the rare occasion - freezing and fading slowly to a light grey or showing a distorted view. It comes back when 'tapping' the back of the screen...

I only mention these issues as they may be connected to the problem causing the bsod and point us in the right direction.

Thanks again for your help!

A stop 0x51 REGISTRY_ERROR BSOD, if not virus, have two more possibilities. System corruptions and hardware failures.

To deal with System corruption, the best and sure way is to go for a clean reinstall. Can you opt for it? Let us know. If not, we will guide you to the other ways, but some risks always remains there.

If the possibility of system corruption is also nullified but the issue persists, we will have to concentrate on the hardware.

I have been unable to find the Windows 7 CD I originally upgraded with, so an alternative option may unfortunately be required ...
