Hi,

I have a pc:

Intel E2220
8gb RAM
Radeon HD 5450
Windows 7 64bit

It's recently been developing an issue where it will freeze and the only way to rectify is to turn it on and off again. It will also randomly bluescreen, but it freezes more than BSOD.

Once the pc is turned back on, the fans will power up but no beep to signify loading. If I leave the PC for 5 minutes or so it will successfully turn on.

I've been running Coretemp and HWmonitor, with the dual cores idling around 22 oc. I have also recently put new thermal compound on the cpu.

I left the pc running with a youtube video playing and it lasted a good few hours (yesterday) without any problems, but alas the issues are back today. The max temp was around 38 on the cpu.

One thing I have noticed is that the heatsink on the 5450 is VERY HOT even at idle. I can only touch it for 2-3 seconds before it's too hot. Alas with it being an older pc, the temps of the gfx card are not being reported.

The HDD is also only about a month old.

I've attached the .zip file with all of the required information.

Big thanks for anyone who can maybe work out what the issue may be here. I'm leaning towards the gfx card having a bit of a headache and causing problems.

Anymore information you may need, please do ask.

cheers

Sam

Hi swam.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Let us know the result.

On another note, the BIOS is too old.
Code:
BiosReleaseDate = 11/30/2007
SystemManufacturer = Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
SystemProductName = P35-S3G
There is an opportunity to update it. GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-P35-S3G (rev. 1.0)
Plan to update the BIOS if possible.

Hi,

I ran memtest on each individual stick for a minimum of 8 passes and it didn't throw back any errors.

Should I update the bios as a next step?

thanks again.

I hope you are aware of the fact that BIOS updates are risky. A little wrong step in the process may convert the board to a brick only.

You need to update the BIOS, but if you are not aware of the procedure, dont attempt it yourself. Take help of somebody who knows it, or any professional tech.

Hi Arc,

If updating the BIOS is the next step in working out whats causing the blue screens I will go forward with the process. I will look up a guide and take it from there.

Hi Arc,

The bios update all went fine.

Is it a case of waiting to see if the pc bluescreens / freezes again and getting another .zip?

Yes, mate. Now it is a waiting game. Wait and observe how everything goes. Let us know when it is necessary.

Hi Arc,

I'm back, and not with good news. After a few weeks of the pc being fine, I had two bluescreens in quick succession today. Please find another .zip.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Update the realtek network driver from Realtek .... get the second one from the list there, that is the "Win7 and Server 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program" one.

Report us for any further BSOD.

Hi Arc,

It was all going well until another bluescreen late last night. Please find the .zip attached.

I made sure the Realtek drivers were correctly installed before this bluescreen occurred.

thanks

Yes, the network driver is updated.

But the latest crash dump is not very informative as to what may be the probable cause of it. Now let us enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hi Arc,

The computer has crashed again whilst driver verifier was running. Is there anyway I can pull a report from the program?

Also when trying to restart the PC I am getting this error:

BOOTMGR is missing or corrupt.

If I leave the pc for 5 mins or so, it seems to start up.
