Solved [BSOD] Random Crashes

- Windows 7 x64
- Original OS was Windows 7 x64
- Retail

- Hardware age is 3-6 months
- OS age is about 3-6 months

It's a custom machine, but I recently switched to a new case a few days ago.
I [tried to] make sure everything was plugged in right, so I'm not sure if that's the issue or not with the BSOD's...(Still kinda new to hardware)

So far it has Blue screened me twice, both while I was away from home, so I haven't been able to see any events leading up to the BSOD.

Any help is appreciated.

Both crashes\bsod point to EtronXHCI.sys your Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller Driver.


We have a little info about this driver.

I suggest for now that you disable the EtronXHCI.sys driver.

This will show whether it is really the cause or is just being blamed. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename it by changing the .sys extension to something else like .old. Be aware this will also "break" the software that uses this driver.


EtronXHCI.sys to EtronXHCI.old


Remove avast from your system.


Download and install and Microsoft Security Essentials with windows firewall enable.


Finish and post back.

EtronXHCI.sys to EtronXHCI.old

Doing this effectively disables all USB ports on my machine. I have found driver updates for it, however, and have downloaded them. I have not installed them yet. (I'll wait til you say what to do about that)

Avast had trouble removing, so I used the avast uninstall tool for it.
Installed MSE 64-bit, but receives an error in moonspeak when I try to press any buttons on the UI.

Alright, I've done that now. So I guess now I just wait and see if I BSOD again?

Alright, it's been 2 days, and no sign of any issues so far.

Marked as solved, updating the Etron USB drivers seems to remedy the issue.
