Hi,

I am facing the issue of BSOD from quite some time now. It crept up only once in a month at the start but suddenly now i am getting it randomly after say 4 or 5 hours or even sometimes frequently with a gap of about 1 hr or 20 mins. Its really annoying. It appears out of nowhere, and i cant seem to narrow down the cause.

The BSOD mentions atikmpag.sys to be the cause, however i dont know what that is, might be related to ati driver i think.

And whenever the BSOD is about to appear, a flashing square appears around the mouse pointer.

I downloaded the tool and uploading the files here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

HI

atikmpag.sys =
ATI Video driver (remove the Catalyst Control Center and only install the Display Driver)
ref: Driver Reference Table

So you might want to reinstall video-drivers.

BSOD persists

Hi zztemp,

Thanks for the reply.

I didnt receive any notification on my email of the response so couldnt reply.

I had reinstalled the drivers though and deleted the Catalyst control centre. I tried to install older versions of the driver also but to no avail, the blue screen continues to come.

I uninstall the drivers after a bsod and then reinstall them. In some cases for some driver versions it works fine for some hours and then again bsod appears, and once it appears, the system is not able to start.

Literally this is killing me now.

You are running an Acer Product ID (PID) on a Gigabyte board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.
Code:
OS Version: 6.1.7600 N/A Build [COLOR="Red"]7600[/COLOR]
OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: KuSH
Registered Organization:
Product ID: [COLOR="red"]00426-OEM-8992662-00006[/COLOR] <-- Acer PID on Gigabyte board.
Original Install Date: 16-09-2014, 19:59:39
System Boot Time: 09-04-2016, 17:14:39
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

You're also far behind with most others, you're running version 7600 while most others are running 7601 (service pack installed)

Yes, the windows is not genuine, i suppose that was at the back of my mind that it might be the case.

But thanks for all the help, i will purchase a genuine copy and see whether the issue still persists.

Also which windows version do you recommend to purchase right now as the ideal for not having such issues in the future ?

I'm not a big fan of Windows 7, I started with Windows 8 as it came preinstalled on my laptop, upgraded to Windows 8.1 and am now using Windows 10 for a short time but I like it a lot.
My personal opinion is that Windows 10 is a very good OS.

However I'm not a guy that recommends things based on his own opinion, I prefer to look at it as neutral as possible to give a fair suggestion.
If there are no problems regarding drivers and hardware with your system you won't experience any BSOD with any version of Windows and then I would recommend that you simply try an OS and see how it turns out for you :)

Ok, thanks for the help and advice.

I think i might go for windows 10 as it is the latest version and support for it and drivers and stuff would be readily available.
