Solved BSOD running ANSYS.exe (bug check code 0x00000124)

Evening everyone,

I'm looking into an issue we are having at a client of ours. This has occurred twice. The first time a mini dump wasn't created. This time I was able to get a mini dump.

I've attached the BSOD collection .zip file to this thread for the report.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the 7forums

As this is a 0x124, which is a hardware error, please follow below suggestions to start with and let me know how it goes.

• Update the BIOS to the most recent version
  https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97AUSB_31/HelpDesk_Download/
• Ensure there is no overclocking, not even the smallest bit, present.
• Ensure there is no dust in the case
• Ensure all the cables are proper connected with no damage.
• Check the temperatures while under load, if the temperatures are going too high ensure the airflow is proper & the fans are proper spinning

Axe, I updated the drivers and also took a look at the case. No dust is present. The temperatures for the CPU elevated. Sometimes reaching 90 degrees Celsius. From what I found the CPU will start to throttle and possibly turn off.

No cables are damaged and no overclocking is occuring.

Could this be the reason? We are running a rather small heatsink and will more than willing to upgrade to a large one. Mind you this system is a calculation PC which is running 24/7.

Generally speaking a CPU shouldn't reach 80C-85C, if the thermal paste hasn't been replaced in a while I'd suggest to do so properly.
What CPU cooler is used?

Thermal paste was applied last year when the PC was built. The CPU cooler is unfortunately a lower end heatsink. At the time of the build this was a budgetary decision.
