BSOD shows up at random

I got another BSOD I ran the sea tool and it did recognize my HDD and I ran the Memtest but I don't know how to get a picture of the results because I can't print screen. I still need to run the disk check.

raiderscom, I'll try to be clearer.

To test your HDD follow the same steps as detailed in post number #40 but instead of SeaTools use the Hitachi utility.
2. Locate the support website of the hard drive manufacturer from the following list and download the appropriate file to your computer. FWIW - the first link for each drive usually contains more information/instructions about running the test. If you cannot locate a test for your hard drive - run the Hitachi DFT (for older systems designed for IDE drives - primarily XP and earlier) or the Seagate SeaTools (for newer systems designed for SATA drives - primarily Vista and later).

As for the Memtest, we need to know the RAM is fine and that the testing is being
carried out correctly.

Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+:

   Tip

  • :info: Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
  • :tip: Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

When your done with the test simply take a picture of the screen not a "printscreen"
use a camera ("printscreen" only works in the OS environment)
and upload the picture following the tutorial linked below :) .

I can't run hitachi or memtest because everytime i run those program my laptop shuts down before it can finish the test. is that a motherboard problem and should i start saving for another laptop or just replace the motherboard?

Could be, but it sounds more like its overheating.
Does the laptop shuts off and remains off when you're running those programs
or is it simply restarting?

If it shuts off, are you able to restart it right away an remain operational?

it restarted once but all the other times it shuts off. and sometimes i can turn my laptop back on right away but most recently when i try to turn my laptop back on the LEDS turn on but the screen is just blank. so i have to wait for a few seconds before turning it back on. I took out one of the memory chips about a day ago and i notice that i haven't gotten a BSOD since then.

That would have been my next suggestion, good thinking :geek:.
Keep me posted.

What you're describing is how a PC would behave without any RAM installed.
What is the current configuration of the PC?

By configuration I meant, what is connected to the motherboard i.e. HDD/RAM etc;

I have a couple of questions and "assignments" if I may.

Is the problem consistent, meaning you can predict when or if it will happen?
If you can't, try these three scenarios.

  1. Make the PC sleep with the battery installed and connected to the power-brick.
  2. Make the PC sleep with the battery only.
  3. Make the PC sleep powered by the power-brick only.
How did the PC behave?
