Greetings benevolent community.
I have a Sony Vaio T series Laptop (Model SVT131A11W) made in China bought in India. Great machine while it lasted. Yesterday had trouble connecting to Skype. Decided to restart. The following appeared on the dreaded Blue Screen...

Technical information:
STOP: 0X0000007E (0XFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0XFFFFFF8800164CEAA, 0XFFFFF8800311D9B8, 0XFFFFF88000311D210)
iastor.sys - Address FFFFF88001645EAA BASE AT FFFFF8800161000, Datesttamp 4ed5a567
By the way these hexadecimal numbers vary every time I try a different option but the 0X0000007E code remains the same.

I have tried all the F8 options: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, etc right down to Start windows normally, but it keeps reverting back to the blue screen. The "Launch Startup Repair (recommended)" option loads the files but goes back to the blue screen. I cannot access anything on this machine.

Grateful for any dummy's guide help please

That situation is critical. The storage controller is failing here, which may actually occur from the disc too.

Try the bootable disc check.

Dont forget to set the storage controller to IDE, as you have AHCI/SCSI (I cannot be sure without seeing the data) enabled.

Does it find any error?

If not, the best and the easiest way is to boot into the BIOS (advanced setup), disable Intel Rapid Storage, Intel Smart Responce or anything of this line, if present, and then perform a clean reinstall.

Thanks Arc,
Will give it a shot. Need to work out how to boot into the BIOS as the machine keeps reverting to the blue screen and stop error code no matter what
