My system has been unstable for a long time now, and I am trying to slowly trouble shoot it. The main problem is that there seems to be no specific reason why my computer crashes all the time. some times it crashes at start, other times it will crash in the middle of a game (I am a heavy gamer). The time between crashes is random at best. It often crashes a lot within a few days and then is fine for a few weeks, rinse and repeat. most times it crashes when I am surfing the web ( I use Firefox) or I am switching between two windows. I run dual monitors off of a single 480 for productivity, but disable the second when I game.

important note: For a long time I had issues with AMD's FUEL service. when I googled the problem, most people with nividia cards experienced no ill effects when turning it off. I have an error about AOD drivers in the event logs. not sure what that is all about.

-thanks in advance for any help you are willing to provide.

uses for my computer:

  • High performance Computing With MATLab
  • 3-D solid modeling and rendering (SolidWorks)
  • Xilinx Design suit
  • Heaving gaming. everything from crysis to runescape.
  • browsing the web
  • school work and general productivity.
Most of my BSOD's come from gaming and web browsing.

To troubleshoot and test for stability in my system I have run:

1) A few burn tests to test heavy loading conditions ( I only got a BSOD once while doing this and that was when I first put together the computer. added a fan and everything was dandy)

2) I have run memtest many times to check my memory. all of it passes with no errors.

3) I have monitored my hardware fairly closely with several monitoring programs (cpuz and the like) to check temps and performance.

Foot Note: Attached is the msinfo32 file and the SF_Diagnostic grab all file. many of the dumps are kernel dumps except for the most recent one which should be a minidump.

My profile should have my current system specs with part numbers where available. I did fill out all the specs when I created my account. If for some reason my specs are not showing up, I apologize and I can post them in thread.

As for the diagnostic tool, I had read that guide and run the program to completion, then zipped and attached the folder. I re-downloaded the program ( maybe I didn't get the right version?). will run again and post results.

Thanks for the super fast response. I'm always lurking here and I want you to know I really appreciate your time.

Just a note, the SF diagnostic tool is taking far longer this time, and it also had a JIT handle error that it did not have before. I have attached a text file with error printout in it.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.

NETIO.sys is a Windows networking driver.
Since it's a Windows driver it's not likely to be the actual cause as it is
protected by the System File Checker.
But it is a networking driver, this points towards networking related 3rd party programs.

Ensure you have all the latest Windows updates.

The following drivers relate to Realtek Audio and more importantly Realtek Wireless LAN:

See if you can update the drivers from RealTek or through Asus website:

Norton AV is also causing issues:

Unable to load image \??\C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.7.0.9\Definitions\IPSDefs\20130301.002\IDSvia64.sys, Win32 error 0n2

Faulting Driver: IDSvia64.sys
Relates to: Norton Internet Security

Please remove Norton Internet Security:

:ar: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us?product=home&version=1

Install as an alternative Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability
compared to other antiviruses/internet security software.

:ar: Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Also please remove Advanced Systemcare from your system as it mat cause more
harm than good, and Win 7 does not require the use of these programs.

I also noticed you have Himachi installed for VPN?

Himachi Network Interface
Outdated driver: himachi.sys 2009
It is also very old and should be updated or removed if not in use?

Post back any feedback/observations.

Cheers

Dave

thanks for taking a look. I ran the SF Diagnostic again and I have attached the new folder. Looks similar to the old folder, but perhaps the content is different. I don't know if it is relevant, but I only recently switched my computer over to creating mini-dumps when it crashes. before it was dumping just the kernel. there should only be one mini-dump, and the rest should be kernel dumps.

  • Hamachi is gone ( I thought I uninstalled it, but didn't). cleaned out some other older programs as well.
  • Updated the Realtek driver
  • A windows update was the first thing I did, but I ran the update tool again. No new MS updates.
  • I would like to keep my Norton AV, I will do a clean install. If it continues to cause problems I will uninstall, but I have never experienced compatibility issues with it in the past.

No problem, glad to help.
Reinstall Norton and see how it goes, IME it hogs system resources and slows the machine down,
but if it works for you and your happy with it then thats
Post back if you experience a new BSOD after it is reinstalled.

Cheers
