Solved BSOD - when connecting USB device

Hi

I'm using Win 7 64bit and last year I bought a new Dell sp2309W monitor which has a built in USB web cam/microphone. Installation of software and use of monitor went without a hitch, everything, including the web cam worked, except that if the monitor was turned off before the computer was shut down or turned on after the machine was started - the computer crashed.

Eventually I unplugged the USB connection and everything (except the web cam) worked fine no more BSODs. However, last night I decided to reconnect the camera. As soon as the connection was made - crash. I restarted the machine and logged onto the desktop and within about 10 seconds - another crash. I re-installed the software and drivers from the original disc and checked that there were no later versions - still get BSOD.

In the attached zip file is the performance check and the output from 'BSOD Dump & System File Collection App'. This includes 50 dump files but the instructions with the app said not to modify the folder contents.

I hope you will be able to shed some light on my problem, certainly any help, guidance will be very much appreciated.

1-ASACPI.SYS a major cause of BSOD's in the 2005 rev.

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

3-these were Related to CtClsFlt.sys Video Class Upper Filter Driver from Creative Technology Ltd.. I would re-install with newest.

The webcam is now working again - I'm not entirely sure why but here's what I did.

Updated the ASACPI.sys file as recommended.
Downloaded the most recent monitor driver from Dell.

Did a search of the Dell forums and it appears that the BSOD problem is connected the the drivers supplied by Creative - the makers of the webCam.

I searched the Dell drivers download area in Help & support with
"Dell_SP2309W-Monitor_Webcam"

The first item was the application and driver download
Dell SP2309W Monitor, A00-00 (I have one on disc)

When I installed this, restarted and connected the camera I got a message saying to connect to a USB 2 port (which it was anyway) I reseated the USB cables and caused a BSOD. But, on restart the camera et al is working again.

So problem gone away, if not solved.

I hope others find this useful and thanks for your help and advice. It was really appreciated.
