BSOD When playing games - Driver related.

Bad news Mike, I came back to home late and found my brother playing Warcraft III (DotA).

After watching him like 30 minutes, the PC sunndely freezed with looping sound ! I had to manually turn off the PC :S

I forgot to mention there wasnt any BSOD when the PC Froze...

I havent had any BSOD for the last week. Just this screen freeze.

That sounds more like a graphics card problem than anything else?
Have you looked in teh event viewer to see if there's any clues there?

Hi Noel.

Sorry to ask this but, where is the event viewer ?

I also ran GPU stress tests and had no problems with it :S

Click on Start - In the Search box, either

1) type 'Event Viewer' and hit the Enter key
or
2) type 'eventvwr' and hit the Enter key

(without the quotes!)
both lead to the same place.

Hi again, I ve just had my first BSOD... The funny thing is that it freezed during the BSOD but thank God it saved a minidump file...

I think this one points nv4_mini.sys file from my Nvidia GPU driver...

Im using the LATEST driver, being 301.42.

Try different display drivers, and use the following steps.

1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
2. Click Start Menu
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Add or Remove Programs
5. For NVIDIA:
   • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
   • Restart your computer
   • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
   • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
   • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Im on it Mike, it is hard to see the forums in 640*480 resolution LOL

Is it too much to ask for my sound card drivers ?

Integrated Realtek ALC888S Audio <---- With the S at the end, I downloaded normal ALC 888 drivers and everyhting but the especific ALC 888 S driver, IDK where to find it !

I uninstalled every graphic and sound driiver and reinstalled the GPU driver, but I dont have sound :S and there is an unkown PCI device that I cant find the drivers for...

I tried installing lot of sound drivers and yet I dont have any sound :C

Try to use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73420-hardware-identification.html to determine what that unknown PCI device is. The steps should be similar in XP.

Have you checked the support site for your system to find drivers? If you are using 32-bit XP, you can probably get drivers for 32-bit Vista to install. Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion a6532f Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I found out that the PCI device is just my onboard graphics, PCI Vendor and Device Lists The last one, Nvidia.

I still have no sound even after trying to install the vista drivers :C

Hmmm, that's strange. Do you have any problem devices or unknown devices showing up in Device Manager?

and
Components > Problem Devices.
Components > Sound Devices.

Well I got a but mad and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bits (and since the OS wasnt the problem after all).

Sorry for giving up :X.

Anyway, Im installing MSE now and following the instruction in past posts, everything is running so smoothly now...

Bumpy !

So after just 1 day of installing Win 7 Home premium, and after some random reboots when playing BFP4F, I got my first BSOD. Pointing MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

I uploaded the minudump, and also cleaned the 2 RAM sticks with eraser gum.

I will start a memtest analyzis plus windows memory analysis this night.

UPDATE: No errors during memory diagnostic tool analysis.

Another BSOD ppointing a .sys file.

UPDATE:

Its a Nvidia graphic driver file I think, I found that after uninstalling my current driver and then rebooting makes Win7 install automatically an older 2009 file with the same name.

I booted in safe mode, uninstalled the latest driver, then rebooted in safe mode again, and renamed the old 2009 file to .sys.old, then I installed the latest nvidia driver, and a new .sys file was installed (now with date 2012), and was a 3 Mb heavier than the older, then I proceeded and deleted the .old file.

I´m rookie with all this but I hope this can help in some way.

Found the real issue, Punkbuster ! Yes, the games I play use Punkbuster...

Now about the problem: Punkbuster have always had problem with Realtek integrated sound cards, wich relate to my crashes (freezes and BSODs with looping sound !)

Im currently trying to get in contact with Realtek about this issue.

"How are you sure this is the problem ?" you say ? Well, basically after DISABLING the onboard sound and playing the games for hours and hours gave me no crashes !

The solution ? : there is no solution... At least fixing it !. But the best one is to get an external sound card, being an USB sound card the best solution to this !
