Hello all, I've just registered and read the BSOD Posting guide and would like to post my .dmp file here.

I thought at first it was because my computer was overheating but idling temperatures is 38-42 C which I read is normal for a computer to run at. My CPU is not overclocked but does have an after market cooler and I've had it for almost a year or so and everything's installed correctly.

Now after confirming that it isn't a heat issue I thought it was because of chrome, lately when I'm on YouTube or viewing a page that requires flash it will crash every time I refresh it, however this does not happen every time, but shortly after it does occur I also get a blue screen.

This also happened when I was playing CS:GO and Ragnarok Online so I'm not sure if it's game related and more shockwave flash related. My chrome does have some add ons but not too many, and I do have a lot of tabs open at once but I have 16 gb of ram so I figured it shouldn't be a problem, because only 2-3 of the 16 are pages that use flash.

Anyway I'm not exactly sure what the problem is so I will include my .dmp file for you to look at, I hope you can help me resolve this issue and thank you in advance.

We are finding that the display driver is somehow responsible for the BSODs.

Would I be able to install 327.23 since those are the latest stable drivers? Wouldn't it be better?

If you want, go and give it a try.

Havent suggested it to be installed on a crashing computer, as 327.23 is new and not widely tested till date. But that is not a big reason, rather if you use it, your experience with it will be useful for sure.

Go as you planned. Apply the 327.23 WHQL.

Alright I went ahead and installed the latest NVidia drivers (the WHQL not beta) and I did a clean installation with only the graphics drivers and physx drivers and I'll let you know what happens. So far when I start Windows and it goes to my desktop it automatically crashes dwm and my Windows Aero doesn't show. I am unable to start dwm. Since I have an evga card would you recommend me to download my drivers from their website? The NVidia ones always tend to give me problems. From the message in my 64-bit dxdiag I'm guessing it's telling me to download the drivers from my manufacturer rather than NVidia to get whgl drivers? I thought the NVidia drivers were whql? Anyway it doesn't show the nvlddmkm.sys as a problem for my dxdiag, but I'm unsure if it will still be a problem for me in my bsod as you showed me in post #2. In my dxdiag 64-bit version in the display tab it says:
The file nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.

I was re-installing cs:go with the steam installer and it was installing the direct x required to play the game and I just had another blue screen, this is making me frustrated.

One thing to note, before I ran driver sweeper I did delete all the nvidia keys/values/strings from my registry using regedit, and I did save a backup just in case, but I figured driver sweeper was going to wipe those anyway, let me know if that could cause a problem or not.

Now, do what I suggested at the first time. Give 314.22 WHQL a try. When a regular nvidia user suggest for a particular version of the display driver, there must be some serious reason behind that recommendation.

I kept 327.23 installed in my system for less than 2 hours, and got 314.22 back. Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Let us know the results.

Alright I uninstalled the 327.23 drivers, restarted in safe mode and removed extra files running driver sweeper as admin, restarted my computer and ran the 314.22 whql driver installer as admin, first time I got an error during installation saying "7-zip: data error." and the box was titled "nvcplsetupeng: error." Uninstalled it and used driver sweeper again in safe mode to sweep the files, restarted once more and ran the installer twice, but this time not as admin. The installer installed the driver successfully, but some nvidia components were not installed. I then restarted my computer and windows aero or dwm does not crash on start up.

I will attach a couple screenshots during the time of my installation, first and second tries respectfully.

If this driver works and I no longer blue screen I will stick with it, but a question comes to mind, how often should I update my video driver? Since the new WHQL drivers aren't even stable for me, should I re-install windows to update them or is it just nvidia's part that needs to be fixed? I will test some games out with these drivers.

Alright I downloaded and ran FurMark 1.9.0.exe rather the later 1.11.0 version because that's the one that was in the tutorial that you gave me (don't think it should be a huge difference.) Anyway I ran the stress test for ~21 minutes, and I was averaging 16 fps with 18 max fps, and 85 C max temp, I stopped the stress test once the line on the chart reached to the right of my monitor cause it kept going. Should I have ran the stress test longer? It didn't seem to finish. Also where can I fetch my test results? Shall I run it again since it might not have finished to get my results? I did not BSOD during the test and the line was stable the entire time.

The driver seems to be installed properly, but the PhysX needs to be installed, too. You may install it by running the installer again.

If you have not noticed any artifacts, if it did not BSOD or if it did not close the program itself, anf if it is not overheating during furmark, then the GPU may be considered to be OK.

Now observe the situation and let us know how it is running.

I ran the 314.22 Driver Installation to install the missing physx software and only checked the graphics drivers and physx with no clean install and I did not run it as admin since I did not think it was necessary and that failed. Would it be okay to download and install a separate version of physx, this one being PhysX-9.13.0725-SystemSoftware rather than the 9.12.1031?

Better you do what is suggested and nothing else.

If you ask, I will not discourage you, but the result you will bet will not be favorable. Look at the first page ... our conversation from post #3 onwards.

No no, Arc you're right, thank you for being so co-operative with me I will do as you suggest since my stubborn decisions obviously result in unwanted results. That brings up a question then, if it keeps failing how shall I install the Physx software? Shall I run driver sweeper in safe mode and delete nvidia - physx and then try to reinstall it running the graphics driver installation as admin, or should I try to get a seperate Physx software that's the same version and run it off that?

EDIT: Okay, I restarted my computer into safe mode and ran driver sweeper as admin, there were no nvidia - physx files to be cleaned when I analyzed them, so I just restarted and ran the graphics driver installer as admin again, but without a clean install, and it failed again, apparently I cannot just install the physx software and need to install the graphics driver, (however I already have it which is why I suggested a separate but same version of the physx software)

Install the 314.22 WHQL only.

  • Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features
    • 3D Vision Control Driver
    • 3D Vision Driver
    • Graphics Driver
    • HD Audio Driver
    • PhysX
    • nvidia Update
(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
  • Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
  • Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

Let us know the results. If it is still unstable, we will take further steps.

This is the one I downloaded, I went ahead and downloaded the same one, let me show you how it looks on my computer.

As you can see included in my attachment, with the installer provided there is no way for me to just install Physx, the Graphics Drivers are mandatory.

I went ahead and ran a clean installation with the Graphics Driver and Physx only. Here's what I got.

One thing I did forget to do that time is restart in safe mode to remove my current graphics driver files with driver sweeper, I shall do that right now and reinstall with physics too...although I doubt that's the case, the installer just decides to finish early, and i've had this happen to me before on my older computers due to registry problems, although I'm not sure if this is the case...

Okay got it. One question though, should I leave my nvidia control panel settings as default? I tend to change some of the settings to my liking, could this affect my bsod's that I am experiencing? I'll leave it at default for now.
