Solved BSOD - Windows 7 Professional x64

In the past I used to get BSODs 80% of the time I tried to quit a video-game, and nowhere else. At the moment I keep getting them randomly. When I received the BSODs quitting video-games, it said there's a problem with the cdd.dll file, so I searched your forums and i tried doing what Arc said here about the driver verifier.

Went to bed, woke up this morning, and the system was not working anymore. I barely managed to restore it and now using the SF Diagnostic Tool I'm uploading all the necesary files hoping you guys might help get rid of this problem.

The 121512.dmp file is the one recovered after the last BSOD I received after closing a video-game and the
121612.dmp is the one recovered after the "driver verifier" was one.

Hello Mavone, it is sad to know that driver verifier put you in such a trouble. When it creates a situation that you cannot boot windows normally with DV enabled, you need to boot into http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html and disable DV there. I think I should elaborate my instructions

Anyway, in your case, DV worked nicely, and it pointed a real thing out, it is your DeathAdder Mouse driver.

Try to find a new version of the driver in Razer Support ; or if the mouse is really that old, you may plan to replace it.

Also, the display driver is failing there.

The Oct 2 version is sometimes troublesome. I would suggest you to

• Download and install Driver Fusion.
• Reboot the computer in Advanced Boot Options, safe mode. Search Driver Fusion in your start menu, and remove all components of your nVidia display driver.
• Boot normally now. Go to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers, Drivers > Beta and Legacy; search there with your cards particulars for GeForce 306.23 Driver, dated 13.9.2012 and install it.

I guess you have installed SP1 very recently, a few hours ago? Or no at all? Let me know please. If not, install Service pack 1.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

• Double click to open it.
• Click this button only:
• 
• If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.

Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept the restart.

Let us know the results, ans also let us know what are the ACPI hardwares you are using? A TV card I guess?

Hello and thanks for the quick answer Arc,

I've downloaded the latest version for the Razer mouse, downloaded and installed (the way you suggested) the 306.23 drivers. I've also uninstalled daemon tools and used the software from Disk-Tools to uninstall the versio of SPTD that was installed on my PC.

About the ACPI. Apart from my specs posted here, I don't have anything else "under the hood", but I do have an UPS (which is, very old, 2006 I believe) that I control through an USB port using the software found at WinPower and I do have a pretty old HP Scanner. The drivers for the scanner were installed automatically by the OS, and the software used to scan documents is again, one of Windows' .

I haven't been able to test it after I made these modifications, but I'll let you know if I'll encounter anymore problems.

Apply the latest version of nVidia display driver.
You may download it directly, from our forum link http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/602-latest-nvidia-forceware-video-drivers-windows-7-a.html; or you may opt for the Option 2 of Drivers- Download NVIDIA Drivers for “Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products” (it requires java installed).

The SP1 was freshly installed on the 15th. The following night the computer crashed (as mentioned in the first post) and I tried restoring earlier points through system recovery because I was unable to boot Windows. (even in Safe Mode)

At the moment I am unable to install the service pack because I get the following error.

Also, I believe it's worth mentioning, that after I restart the computer I get "spikes" in my CPU usage. It randomly goes up to 20-25% and then back down.

Freshly installed Windows 7, updated, another BSOD, this time while having firefox opened, dota 2 minimized and skype.

At the moment I did have daemon tools installed and I wasn't able to stress test the CPU with Prime95 til now.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

• If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
• If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.
