Not so much. I run all 3 and can use either happily. 10 will run most games just as well as 7. I believe the new games coming out will be made for 7 and 10, so there shouldn't be a problem if you want 10. You may want to read this thread, List of Games working on Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

This isn't meant to be a big "which OS is best' post and it will not turn into one. I happen to like both and could be happy with either. To me it appears that 10 is on its way to becoming the Windows OS of the future, and the newer games will be written for Windows 10. Windows 7 is an excellent OS, but will lose support from Microsoft in 4 years and 10 is the new OS. Use whichever you would like, but if it were me, I would look stronger at 10. 10 is the future, like it or not.

you do not want Windows 8 or even 8.1 , get Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit to go with the new platform.

You will never figure out how to put 7 on the new chipset

Oh yea I forgot about the win-7 sidestep to get it installed on skylake
I believe the mother board does have the old style keyboard/ mouse connections

You can put Windows 7 on.

If you have a PS2 mouse and keyboard, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.

If you have a USB mouse and keyboard, you will have to work around a driver problem for the installation. Win 7 will run fine after you get it installed.

There are varying ways to get around the driver problem.

1: Your motherboard's manufacturer may have a downloadable tool to inject the correct USB drivers into your Windows installer. I know Gigabyte has such a tool.

2: Your motherboard may have a setting to emulate PS2 through USB ports. I know Asrock motherboards have such a setting.

3: You may be able to enable legacy USB mode in the motherboard's BIOS.

Or possibly some other method. You should go to your motherboard manufacturer's web site and look for information--possibly a post in a forum or FAQ; possibly a downloadable tool in the support section for your particular motherboard.

Yep it's just during the install usb2 devices are disabled but that board has PS/2 port on it

Will plugging into usb 2.0 ports not work?

Although it's red on the board for some reason and not green or purple ?
I believe you can use either a mouse or keyboard with it.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Sometimes they will work for one purpose, but not for others. Maybe you could type a letter to grandma with one, but not necessarily transmit the right signals to a motherboard during a Windows installation.

They are a crap shoot. Maybe good luck, maybe not.

Know what you will do if they fail.

I don't believe it matters the mouse is all you need in an install,
You can skip entering the activation code step and activate later when you get to the desktop where all usb's will work.
Thankfully 7 comes on a install cd
So does 8 or 8.1

But if you buy 10 and don't like it you're pretty much stuck with it
10 is a free upgrade for another 8.. months

Yeah, that's what I'd do--cheap PS2 mouse and keyboard---unless you want to use one of the workarounds. You can get a new mouse for 7 dollars and probably find a used PS2 keyboard at a Goodwill store for 3 dollars.

I'll probably be faced with the same issue when I rebuild. All I've done so far is lots of research and that's where I discovered the workarounds.

MSI probably has a workaround published on their website and you might be able to find videos on youtube.
