Solved Build 7601 NG following repair install on win 7 sp1 64 bit

Evening all,

Got the horrible 7601 build not genuine error now appearing on my pc.

Particularly frustrating as it is a genuine copy of windows installed on a HP desktop. All the advice says remove the KB971033 and remove - and then in Cmd prompt type slmgr -rearm or slmgr /rearm. Neither of those work for me and I get an error saying Ms windows non core edition slui.exe error. (besides which that doesn't seem like a resolution so much as a work around)

Hi Derby,

Shouldnt help you as you knocked us out of the cup, UP the Saints

Please install KB971033, the only reason to uninstall it is if the OS is not genuine
(you are using the COA product key WHY)
Have you just clean installed


Any way where did you get your Office Enterprise from its NOT activated and likely the main cause

Hi Torchwood - sorry bout the cup!

Os is definitely genuine - i've just completed a repair install as PC wasn't working - stuck in a boot loop, which I eventually sorted.

Ill reinstall the KB now and reboot

As for the COA.... is that something ive done? The os is OA (on the machine when I bought it) but the product key is on the side of the PC

Hi

The only reason to use that key is if you've had a major system problem, usually caused by malware
A repair install would have used your current key, or your base key if not over-written which it has

Looked up the system specs it was shipped with W7 home Premium, so goes back to what i said above

OR

as i said earlier where did you get your Office Enterprise
If you DO NOT have a product key for it
Uninstall it and use something like Libre Office (free)

The product key on the side of the pc is the only key I’ve ever used. This is the third hard drive I’ve had in this pc, so not sure what the original key was :-(

The office enterprise is from the home use program and bought through the company I used to work for and has a product key on a label inside the dvd case.

Am I missing something here? The product key I’ve hashed out is the one that’s on the side of the pc, is that not the product key I should have been using? It’s the same key I’ve used for 7-8 yearsish when I bought this pc?

I don’t recall being asked for the key during the install, but it’s possible I have. It’s been a long weekend trying to get back online metaphorically and literally.

Office enterprise 2007 was already activated just confirmed - not sure why you are/were seeing it as not KB971033 now reinstalled but still black desktop and unable to activate via the activation pop up on start up....

Was unable to get mcadiag to run, then it disappeared. Either the hd drive was on way out or a virus/malware caused issues, basically I couldn’t get it to do anything from desktop.

Now installing totally fresh on a new hd

Roy, when I activate win 7 am I using the 5x5 digit code on the label on the side?or as you seemed to be implying should I be using something else?

Im just also pondering if this is an error bought about because id connected my old c drive to drag some stuff across.....currently old drive not connected and as yet no message.

it is possible that validation was checking during the time you had both drives connected, and caused this
hence your comment -- currently old drive not connected and as yet no message.

just in case recheck the key you've input
note the following invalid Numbers/letters 0,1,5, and A,E,I,L,N,O,S,U, and Z

Just woken pc from sleep with only c drive connected and have the

"The windows 7 Home Premium product key you have typed is invalid for activation" pop up

continues with "to activate Windows you will need to use the automated phone system."

givem a bell, had to when i swapped my HDD for an SSD
Just tell them youve done the same, only live on 1 drive, NOTHING else
