This has happened recently but have no idea what caused it.
Setup:
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit PC
1 TB Agestar NAS - FAt32
Home network

I can not longer write even a small file to a NAS folder. If I try I get:

"you dont have permission to save to this location"

I go the Windows explorer and can see all the NAS folders and files. I go to Public folder Properties. Select Security. This shows various user names including Everyone. Only Special Permissions is ticked. I go to change permissions by clicking on Edit. I click on Full Control and then get error message:

Error Applying Security
An error occurred while applying security information to: \\NAS\public
Access is denied.

I have tried starting applications with full administrator rights, closed the homegroup, and lots of other stuff but without success.

Previously I was using Acronis every night to backup to the NAS and now of course, that doesn't work and I can't even save a small text file to the Public folder on the NAS. I have checked and rechecked that both Administrator and Myself (with Admin rights) are correct from the NAS end.

No success after a number of weeks. I have searched and searched through the web for solutions but without joy. :(

HELP please!

Thanks

Hello zzzmuzz,

Have you tried shutting down the NAS and give it a rest for 2 min?

Also, unplug the network cable from the router or switch.

Do a simple test, ping the IP Address of the NAS and see if you'll get a time out.
Also, try accessing the NAS from another computer and see if you're able to access it or not.

Is the Device configured with Static IP and not DHCP or Auto IP?

Please post an update.

Thanks for the reply
I can see all the files on the NAS and have unplugged the cable from the router and rebooted NAS.
I can access the NAS from another computer on the network, but again, I can't save even a txt file to it. This suggests an issue with the NAS itself rather than Windows permissions I assume. However I been into the NAS checked all permissions for users and both users are on full access. There are no other permissions I can edit. "You do not have permissions to save in this location..." etc .

The device has a static IP. And yes, I can ping the NAS. As noted above, I can see all tbe folders and files.
