Can not get anything to work after a new install.

I bought a Compact CQ57 with the hard drive wiped. I sent the computer to Computer Surgeons and they installed the original Windows 7 on it. But I can not get anything to work.

Please be very specific because I a not very computer literate.

I called Computer Surgeons and they explained that they are contractors for HP and the only thing they can do is re-install the original Windows 7 operating system.

What doesnt work explain can you get on the internet load programs install software?

If I fight with it I can get MSN to come up. But if I type in anything, Yahoo Mail, I get a notice that that site has security issues and it locks the computer. I can not get anything to come up.

Unless you want to clean install Windows 7 yourself, then I would call HP and see if they have Recovery CD's or DVD you can buy.

If you paid these "Computer Surgeons" then I don`t understand why they won`t help you.

Maybe they didn't install all the proper drivers. (Highly unlikely)

Check you date time as that can give the problem if its wrong

Yes, this is a clean install.

I called HP for installation discs and they told me to contact Computer Sugeons and L could buy new installation. I bought the new discs. I tried to install it but they wouldn't work. I called Computer Surgeons and they saif\d to send my computer to them. sent my computer to them and they said that they had no problems installing Windows 7. But I can not get onto the internet with it. I called them and they said that all they do is re-install the operating system

Before I replied I decided to check the date and time on that computer. And I hadn't updated it. I did set the date and time but that did not seem to make any difference.

If you can't get on the internet open a cmd prompt then type ipconfig /all post results so we can see

Hi okwrangler2003,

You ONLY need to type this:

ipconfig /all

Notice the space between the g of ipconfig and the /all.
You don't need to type anything else other than that, i.e. no quotes etc.

Sounds like they didn`t install any drivers.

Use the last link I posted in reply #6.

You`ll need to use another computer to get online and a flash drive to download the drivers on.

Just get the network drivers and install them on your PC, once you get online you can download the rest.

No ,nothing seemed to work. I just kind of stopped working on it. I am not very computer savy so I am sure it is my fault I can not get it to work. Plus I have been sick all week. Head stopped up and can't breathe. Prairie fires and high winds.

This is probably the worst recommendation I could ever give to someone but WTH, do you have a Best Buy nearby ?

If so, take it to them or have the Geek Squad come to your house to get the PC online.
