Why don't you use the BIOS one-time boot menu to select which OS/HDD to start when the PC is booted, set the OS/HDD you want as default and when you want to start the other boot and select that OS/SSD using the BIOS one-time boot menu.

That way Grub is not needed at all and can't cause errors

Did you read what I wrote here?

Unplug the separate HD Disk0, move it's cable to the Win7 target HD so it becomes Win7 install target HD.

Make sure it is still set as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, after DVD drive.

Later after install plug back in other HD, boot it using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key at avoid having to use GRUB on Win7.

I like GRUB. It's on the SSD and has an entry for the Windows 7 drive.
