Well, didn't find anything on Google about my problem, nor I did in forums, so here I go...

I need to change the compatibility mode of some system32 file, but Windows prevents me from doing it.
Tried to bypass this by using "net user administrator", but it doesn't work.
Tried taking full ownership, but this doesn't work too. But if I (for example) rename "taskmgr.exe" to "taskmgr2.exe", the file properties can be changed, but they will be reversed if the file is renamed back to original "taskmgr.exe"... So, can I do something about this?

PS: Please, don't ask me why I want to do this, I know very good why I should do it...

Welcome to the forum.

You cannot normally edit the compatibility of programs supplied with Windows. This is by design. What would be the point?
It seems to me that whatever you are trying to accomplish you are going about it the wrong way. If we knew what that was maybe someone could suggest a solution.

I don't think you can change the compatibility mode of any native Windows 7 applications. You only change some older system applications to run on Windows 7, such as some Windows XP or older versions of Windows, hence the reason for the compatibility mode being able to be changed.

You certainly could not get a native Windows 7 application to run on Windows 95, but you can get some Windows 95 applications to run on Windows 7.

Well, that's bad... I will at least explain why I want to do this.

So, I installed "Free Extended Task Manager", but it doesn't work without compatibility in Windows 7... Maybe you will think "but you can change the compatibility of program"... Well, true, but what I want to do is replacing the original task manager with this one by editing "taskmgr" shortcut to "taskmgr2", and then Free Extended Task Manager to "taskmgr". It's all good, but then the .exe of Free Extended Task Manager suddenly became "part of Windows"... And because Free Extended Task Manager is native application for Windows XP, it cannot run without compatibility on Windows 7. As I see that I can't bypass this restriction of "Windows files", I think I can only make keyboard shortcut to start the Free Extended Task Manager...

But thank you all for the help.

Have you searched Google for the latest version of Free Extended Task Manager. I have done a quick search & it seems now to be compatible with Windows 7.

Well, it isn't. Downloaded directly from their official website, I manage to run it ONLY if I make it with Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility, otherwise it will show error "-9"... I googled the error and the only fix is compatibility.

Thanks for getting back. It seems that you will have to accept running in compatibility mode, which really should not cause any problems, if it works all right.

Uh, do you understand why I created the topic?... I want to replace Windows 7 task manager by this one, but I can't, because when I do so, the task manager became "part of Windows" and compatibility cannot be set for these type files. Your answer don't make sense.

What you want is not possible in the current windows design, you can do an alternative by making a shortcut with your compatibility parameters to the programs native home and give it a hotkey of like ctrl + alt +T. That's as close as your going to get.

Yeah... Anyway, thank you for answering. This isn't the real answer to the question, but as I said... Shortcut will be the best. The problem seems "solved". Thank you all for answering.
