Cannot see WD5000AAKX hdd AFTER win7 install

Hi all, I'm new to the forums.

I have a very strange dilemma I cannot figure out.

I have a brand new system running windows 7 64-bit right now, which cannot see my WD5000AAKX which is my OLD backup HDD from an older system (which ran Windows XP).
All the jumper pins in the back are removed, so the default 6GB/s is unlocked.

My current system has the OS installed on a 256GB SSD with a 2TB WD Black HDD being used as Data storage.
This 500GB WD5000AAKX blue caviar is being used as an os backup drive.

I WAS able to see the AAKX in the BIOS, as well as see it during the initial Win7 Install process.
I'm puzzled as to why the OS cannot see the hdd AFTER it's been installed.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The old system was setup in AHCI mode (not RAID), and the new system is set to ACHI as well.
Old system was SATA-2 (with 3.0GB/s 5-6pin jumper installed on hdd)... and removed the jumper before booting the hdd on the new machine.

The hdd still reads perfectly fine on the old XP machine.

Any help appreciated, and thanks in advance.

That doesn't help at all...
The OS doesn't see the drive from My Computer.
HOWEVER, I do see it from the System Devices menu... but there's nothing wrong with it from what I'm seeing.

Can you please post a screenshot of how your 500GB WD drive looks in Windows Disk Management?

By System Devices Menu, do you mean the Device Manager?

FYI ... The drive does NOT show up in My Computer.
... However, it DOES show up under Device Manager, and has no issues.

-- I tried to Uninstall the hdd from Device Manager... no luck. The system rebooted and saw the drive, but did not show up in My Computer
-- Also tried looking at the hdd from Disk Management, and it's not showing up on the top drive list.
-- However, I do see the drive in the bottom graph list, but is unassigned and inaccessible.
-- I CANNOT reformat this drive, as it has necessary data that needs to be used on this new computer.

I think I am unable to analyse the problem - for whatever reason - and hence leave it to other experts to crack on it.

BLEH... no luck... I'm forced to WIPE the data off this drive... =(

Disk Management didn't show the drive on the top list section, but showed the drive as "Invalid Dynamic" in the bottom section.
The drive would no reactive, so I was forced to "Convert to Basic" on the drive.

The HDD came back to life (able to read again), but was forced to wipe the entire partition table and all the data on the drive... =(

Does anyone know a way of REVIVING a drive in this condition WITHOUT having to wipe the partition table/data on the drive?

Would be useful to know if this happens again, and there is a way to safe the drive...

One reason I gave up on this is you failed to comply with the above request of furnishing the screenshot. I am literally tired of people not complying with any requests of further information to help them.

Had you furnished the screenshot as requested, even if I were unable to give any solution, there are greater experts like gregrocker here who would have chipped in and helped you to resolve the problem.

Get on another computer and go to:

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

download and burn the free iso to a CD. Use BurnCDCC v2.02

The Portable Freeware Collection - BurnCDCC

With the WD5000AAKX attached have your computer boot from

CD 1st.

When it loads, right-click the WD5000AAKX and see if it is

set to "Non Active". If it's Active, re-set it.

Reboot and take the CD out of the drive and hopefully you will now

see the WD5000AAKX.
