I have the Win 7 Pro ISO on USB, but I can't Upgrade my system, because you have to Restart without the USB to Upgrade. I have a corrupted Win 7, so I cannot restart. How do I Upgrade the system without losing my data?

Are you upgrading from Vista?

There comes a point in the upgrade process where you are safe to remove the USB. Perhaps you can change the boot order in BIOS.

No. I have Win 7 and want to restore it. The Upgrade process requires you to reboot without the USB. That's what I cannot do.

Hi,

Do you mean :
you cannot reboot with the USB absent, or
you cannot reboot without the USB (the computer always reboots to the USB)?

Sorry. I meant that I cannot reboot with the USB absent. I have no trouble using F12 to switch the boot to USB, or F8 to get the restart options, but when the Upgrade option says to remove the USB and restart, I just get a black screen.
So I guess the ISO USB does not really boot Win 7, but just the Installation/Upgrade screen.

ask the OP (iko22) if his computer has USB 2.0 or USB 3.0/3.1 ports.
the USB 3.x ports are blue while the USB 2.0 ports are black

I don't have this problem since I do not get the prompt to remove usb when installing Win7 from a usb stick

the cause might be from how the Win7 ISO image was created and written onto the usb stick; I use Rufus to make the Win7 iso onto it

Thanks to all for your help. I finally signed with Microsoft Assure to get the problem solved. Big mistake! But the computer is running again.
