A friend has given me his notebook to see if I can get it to connect to the internet. He's been trying to use a Vodafone dongle, but right where I am there's no Vodafone signal. So I'm trying to get the notebook to connect to my home network. But when I click the internet icon in the notification area I do not see a list of available connections to choose from, just 'Broadband connection', what seems to be a generic thing. Why don't I see the normas list?

Cryptogram, Welcome to the windows 7 forum.

You might not have the wireless adapter setup for use. Have you checked out the adapter by looking at devices and see if it is setup and available? Also, the automatic power off might be set to off and that's why it won't allow it to find a wireless network.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
In Device Manager the network controller has a yellow exclamation. I've tried downloading the Realtek driver but when the installation starts it says it's installing an ethernet controller. Thye ethernet is fine. The computer access the internet via this. Why won't it download the wireless controller?

Cryptogram, you should go to the notebooks manufacturer site and search for the drivers. What is the make and model of
the notebook?

In the end I went to Toshiba help and there was an article about what to do. I ended up doing a system restore from about 5 years ago and it now works fine.

Thanks for your help.

Cryptogram, just check the power settings on the adapter so that it doesn't turn off when it is not supposed to..
Glad that it all works fine now.

select my computer, select properties, and then select device manager.
Select your network adapters, then right click to properties. The far right tab is power management
unselect the option for let the computer to turn off this device.

Make sure that it is not selected and you should be good as gold.

Hello,
I would appreciate it if you could help me with my wireless connection problem:
I have added a standard user account to my laptop. I did not apply any parental and password control on it. When I log in as standard user, I can not setup internet connection because the wireless light gets off automatically ( I do not touch the button). I turn it off and on manually but it did not help, it seems it does not recognize it as standard user. I do not know if I need change any settings as administrator or in standard user account.
Please help me figure this out.
Thank you
