Can't delete a self-created folder on desktop

OK...ALL in the same 30 minutes....

I created 2 folders on my desktop, one called The Faces, one called Rod Stewart.

I ripped some music to both, burned a CD from each, and then the fun started.

I right-clicked on The Faces folder, deleted. No prob.

I right-clicked on Rod Stewart folder and was told I don't have administrator rights to delete it.

I deleted all files in the folder, no prob.

I tried to delete now empty folder, no rights.

Ran elevated cmd prompt and typed:

rd /s /q "w:\user\desktop\rod stewart" and get access denied.

I right click folder and Take Ownership....Access Denied.

So I have an empty folder on desktop...

I even tried creating another folder on desktop called Junk, and tried dropping the Rod Stewart folder into it to then Delete Junk...I don't have admin rights to cut the empty Rod Stewart folder....

In Explorer when I navigate to the folder and try and click on it I get "it is not accessible", as in...it's NOT THERE.

thoughts?..PLEASE?!??!?!?!?

As I said, I right click folder and Take Ownership (using the reg edit shortcut)....Access Denied.

Run a virus check on it just for chuckles.

Have you tried rebooting your PC and then deleting it?

Have rebooted 3 times since, and have run a virus scan. Nada...

Or you could do a system restore to a point before creating the folder....

Safe Mode...PC WOULD NOT boot into Safe Mode, even though I chose it, PC booted normally.

Safe Mode with Networking....bingo....in...find the file on Desktop and DELETED it !!

Yay....

rebooted, back to normal operation and clean desktop...

Answer: THE Computer - LOL. But seriously, there must have been a combination of circumstances that we will probably never be able to untangle. The way you decribed the creation of the folder, there should have been no reason that it gave you such a hard time. The fact that you could delete it in safe mode would point to the fact that some odd process was holding on to it. Next time things like that happen check whether there are any handles hanging on to the file/folder e. g like this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/12531-resource-monitor-view-handles-modules.html
