could you carry out the diskpart sequence again and this time change the cmd shell screen to full screen size so that my aging eyes can read the snip you have made?

Thanks.

Yep, type 0f. If you had win 95, I'd expect to see that.

What have you been doing to get a partition type of 0f?

This does not bode well.

There are a couple of recovery tools although they are not free and I do not know if they will even recover for you.

I'll do some research and see what I can come up with.

Maybe some of the other chaps have actual experience with this problem.

I don't want to be guilty of any permanent loss, but if the commercial partition recovery programs such as active@
Active@ File Recovery is a file recovery software for Windows

then one can try changing to partition type to 07 with DiskPart. If info no immediately available, then maybe recuva or another recovery program will be of assistance.

For knowledge about partition and size limits, etc. and since this has changed since the Win95 and dos days, then:

Hello again. Sorry about the troubles you're having. Boot from the PW CD again and from the Wizards tab, run Partition Recovery Wizard. Hopefully it'll find lost partitions. Identify your lost partition by size and space, check the box against it it and restore it.

Glad you got it fixed. Used correctly such programs can be a real time saver. Used incorrectly, the results can be disastrous.

Incidentally, they make other recovery programs for other situations, for example, lost photo files.

Many thanks for getting back to us.

So are you back to the old partition structure with the free space or the new one without the free space?

This is what it looks like but at least I can access my files. When I try to use the live cd to extend the storage partition again I get error code 19.

Move all that data off that partition before you try anything. Keep it simple- after you've moved the data off, delete the storage volume so you have unallocated space there too. Right click on the free space and let it create a simple volume, after that extend it to the right and left (with PW) to use up all the space. But keep your data backed up at all times.

I dont have a way to transfer the data, so I guess it will take a while for me to get back to you.

gold3n,

Null Problemo.

What you can do is, even with Disk Management, convert that "unallocated" space just to the right of the C: to a:
Primary Partition.
do not, I repeat, do not convert to a logical drive.

After doing that, you can move your data from the "storage" drive, to the new primary partition.

Folllowing that, then delete the "storage" drive,

After that, post a new picture of disk management screen.

Cpmbining the remaining space and/or extending the new "storage" dirve will be easy.
