Solved cant share any files except public

Our drive crashed.
So setup another PC running win10
That PC can not accept another sata drive, not enough power plugs.
So I put the crashed drive in a windows 7 pc.
booted, chkdisk fixed tons of errors.
Disk is now accessible, user files can opened.

I WANT to copy the user files from the formerly crashed drive to the new win10 PC across my home network.
I CANT.
I managed to create a share.
The win10 PC sees the share, but when opened says I dont have permission.

So I go back to the share and set to EVERYONE, wilt full read write, it still refuses to allow the share.

I then tried to enter a homegroup, using the right password, homegroup says encountered an error.

Seems dumb, but, I was reading you have to click security tab add 'everyone' , then give 'everyone' full control?
Will that work?

ok, that worked.
What is the problem with homegroup?
I have 3 windows pc on the network. One has created a homegroup on the network.
What use is a homegroup anyway? Why is it a problem?
