Can't start Win7 and Startup Repair doesn't work at all!! What to do?

Windows won't start. I get a a black screen saying some hardware or software has changed and the only options are to press enter to continue, or escape to exit.

I tried booting my Win 7 64 bit recovery disc (aka system repair disc) but in the second screen where it tells you to select an operating system, it is blank! I attempted to add hard disk drivers but i couldn't figure out how.

So i pressed next and got to the screen with various options. I selected "Startup Repair" but that won't work.

It says that "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically",

So i can't do any type of recovery to repair my Windows 7. Would finding the appropriate hard disk driver in the beginning of the startup repair process (the second screen) be a solution to be able to select the appropriate OS to fix? if so, how?

What else can I do besides backing up all my important files and reinstalling everything? I'd really like to "fix" this.

Instead of going to startup repair in the recovery options, choose command prompt and run an offline sfc scan.

What about safe mode, have you tried that?

The last time this happened to me it was due to a bad hdd losing system data. Windows 7 is locking you out because it thinks you've stuck the hard drive into a new computer, it's part of the DRM. As for how to fix it I can't beat the above suggestion. If that fails I would run a disc check though, as the problem could have been caused by a hdd failure.

Make sure Win7 partition is marked Active then try Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html

If Win7 still won't show up to repair, try using Repair CD Command Line to run bootrec.exe /fixboot then bootrec.exe /fixmbr to see if it will jump start it to show up to repair.

Next test your HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html followed by http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html from the Repair CD Command Line.

You can copy your files out using the Repair CD:

Same Problem, can't use any of Above solutions

I have the same problem with the same error as OP, but I can't use the above solutions. My computer was a computer I got from an office I can no longer go to. There is no repair disc, no intall disc, and I can't use the command prompt thing. The restore thing won't recondize the OS, so I can't do a restore. Can someone please tell me how I would fix this. I'm even willing to wipe the entire hard drive except the OS, everything was saved on a cloud before hand. But I don't know how to do this, please help!

Is this factory presinstalled Win7 which has a COA sticker attached with the Product Key for your licensed version you're using now? If so you can Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If it's retail Win7 and you don't have the Product Key you can audit it from HD along with all other software and hardware using Belarc Advisor, then use it to do the above reinstall.

However if this is Enterprise version from your old job then it cannot be reactivated except by your office IT department.
