Why's the clock in UTC format instead of GMT:
View attachment 20935

Is there anyway to change it to GMT?

hi bp96, and welcome to the forum,

what's the difference? (apart from a fraction of a second?)

but if you really want to change it, HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/Time Zones/UTC/Display

hope that helps!

UTC replaced GMT as the basis for the main reference time scale or civil time in various regions on January 1, 1972

Why did Vista and XP have GMT but now Windows 7 uses UTC?
Did the Windows 7 RC builds have GMT?

From the wiki link in my first post above:

The International Telecommunication Union wanted Coordinated Universal Time to have a single abbreviation for all languages. English speakers and French speakers each wanted the initials of their respective language's terms to be used internationally: "CUT" for "coordinated universal time" and "TUC" for "temps universel coordonné". This resulted in the final compromise of using "UTC".

"final compromise" :what: pleases no-one :roflmao:

Thanks for the replies in a very short time but can anyone answer the other question I asked:

Sorry if it is obvious.

i think the whole world is heading in that direction, because GMT is not strictly accurate...i think it's called progress ;)

click on the 'what's the difference' link in my first post to find out more.

You have to ask Microsoft about that. Maybe the XP and Vista teams didn´t know that GMT is out and UTC is in?

I still can not understand why this is so important for you. World needs a "CENTRAL TIME", it`s not important how it is called as long as everybody knows it.

GMT is dead. Long live UTC!

This isn't so important to me- it's just that it's wierd because previous versions of Windows had GMT.

Why close it? Nice to chat sometimes about something else, not always about RC and RTM and builds and so ;)

Change computer from UTC to GMT

I desperately need my timezone to read GMT and not UTC. This is due to coding of software at a client site. Because my computer is reading UTC, I am getting error messages that do not allow me to access Oracle Forms. I have tried going into the registry and updating the Display, but the choices in Time/Settings still reads UTC. I have rebooted twice. Still states UTC. Any other ideas on how to force the change to read GMT? Please help!!!

You should take that up with Oracle. If their application is failing because of time setting, then something is very very wrong with that application. But how do you know it is the time settings and just not an incompatibility with Windows 7?
