Hi,

Just formatted my PC and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. In the process of running Windows Update and Service Pack 1 will not install correctly, but I also never receive an error message.

Specifically "SP1Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)".

Every time I "Install Updates" it takes about 30 seconds and says the updates were successfully installed. Shutdown and it does its thing, completes successfully, but when I run Windows Update again it is still listed as uninstalled. The update history shows (multiple) successful installs via Windows Update as well as both times I tried the standalone updates.

No idea how to resolve.

CBS split into 2 files and attached.

Thanks for any help.

You appear to have data corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

Looks like I am all set, SP1 installed and almost up to date in all other areas as well.

Thanks for the help.

What was the problem and what did "REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD" do?

Quick Edit: More importantly, what caused the problem?

That sort of corruption can be caused by a faulty download, a power spike, RAM problems, HD problems.....

Glad you seem to be getting there now!

Good luck.
