Clean reinstall question

Hi

hope i'm posting in the right forum

Having many problems with my computer crashing and thinking of doing a clean reinstall of win 7.

However I have Win 7 on an SSD and most of my games and other software etc on a different HDD.

if I reinstall win 7 on the SSD with the other softare on the HDD work, will they have to be reloaded?

You'll have to reinstall the programs, but they should go on the SSD to benefit from its faster speeds. It defeats the purpose of having an SSD to run programs from a slower HD.

What I would do is install your most used programs to the SSD, then move your User folders data off to the HD by copying each active User folder, rightclicking to link to the related Library. You can also move them by this method, but Win7 backup imaging will force-include the HD in any System image: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html

That's not really practical, the SSD isn't big enough to hold all the software hence being installed on a separate HDD.
Only windows is on the SDD, hence if reinstall windows on the SDD the other software will still been the HDD but I was wondering if they could still be used.

120Gb SSD

My other software takes up 600Gb

That's plenty big to fit the OS and your programs on. There's no point in having an SSD just for the OS since it's the programs that benefit most.

And since the OS only takes up a sliver of 120gb why are you saying you cannot install programs on it?

I gave you the suggestion which works best for thousands of users we've helped with this here, install as many of your most-used programs as possible in order of priority to the SSD, then keep your data on the HD.

I also stated clearly that you cannot use the same programs installed unnecessarily on the HD for a new Win7 install.
