Clipboardcache Files - OK to Delete

I find I have a total of 91 clipboardcache files totaling over 6 GB on my system drive.

Is it true that a current Firefox based browser creates these each time you copy information from a web page and leaves them 'just in case you might need them' forever or until they are manually deleted?

This hardly seems like a desirable feature. Please help me see what I am missing.

Where are you seeing this? It looks like 7 doesn't have that ability.

I adopted XTree as a file manager in the 1980's. ZTreeWin, its successor in spirit, continues to serve me faithfully.

I simply went to this path:

C:\Users\(MyName)\AppData\Local\Temp\clipboardcache

and set the filespec to "clipb*.*

The most recent files are from 12/22/20 and the earliest from 6/11/14. All have the attributes, .a.., so I can simply delete them.

Can anyone explain what motivated my system to cache them?

Geez man, have you NEVER cleaned the system? All system cleaners including windows 7 cleaner will delete everything in:
C:\Users\(MyName)\AppData\Local\Temp\

I've never used the default cleaners because they delete the history, and I regularly use the history to get back to something I was working on. I like to be able to type in a few letters of an URL and have them auto-fill without having to save and then find and open a bookmark. I find it offensive when a website walks its dog on my desktop and leaves the turds for me to find and clean up. It would be an improvement if the designer of an operating system could arrange to leave the turds on top instead of burying them in a pile of leaves.

All cleaners can be set NOT to delete the history of the browsers. Or anything else you want to keep. Just read the settings.
Since you haven;t cleaned Windows since 2014, I would imagine you could free up many many GB of space.
You can at least go to C:\Users\(MyName)\AppData\Local\Temp\
and delete everything in the folder. There will be a couple that are in use and can't be deleted.

I did that much before I shut down last night.
A week ago I set PSE so that the temp files it creates are on a data disk with greater capacity.

I now have 6 GB of space on a 128 GB SSD, or ~5%. I believe I read somewhere hat it should be more like 10%.

Needs 10% to defragment a drive. Can't defrag an SSD. Only optimize.

There's a couple of cleaners you might be interested in. The ever popular Ccleaner and System Ninja which picks up the slack. Those two will be the only two you'll need. In System Ninja leave the cleaning of folder Config. files UNCHECKED.

+1 F22SimPilot, I have been using portable Ccleaner to delete browser cache files only, history and such are left alone.
