Computer Acting Funny

BinkerNate, Just to keep you from posting shots of cpuz, at the bottom left of the screen where you posted is my system specs. click that and click update specs and put all the information in. That way people don't keep asking abput your hardware and it makes it easier to answer questions if we know what hardware we are dealing with.

Did it, but...well, some of those things I can't answer because I don't understand what they're asking.

Nobody else in the house uses that internet connection? What kind is it? DSL, cable... and what's your speed? Have you checked the line?

Cable

I do notice though that you've got three 2GB sticks. Cpu-z is reporting this as "symmetrical". It's actually asymmetrical; a dual channel board would use 4GB's or 8GB's... 6GB's is usually seen on triple channel boards. I'm not sure how your board is handling that, but just as a test, I would see how the machine runs with 4GB's in true symmetric dual channel mode.

Okay, but how am'I suppose to do that?

What anti virus program do you have? Update it and run it... a full/detailed scan and not just a quick one. Also, it would not hurt to run Malwarebytes to see if you have anything your AV doesn't catch. Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

I have Microsoft Security Essentials, and it takes a looong time to do this. And I don't mean 3-5 hours; I would say it would take me close to a day to complete the scan. Maybe a new one I should get?

I use to have Malwarebytes, but it didn't work recently. Long story short; didn't think about getting it again until you mentioned it. I did do a scan and it froze. It's updated, but it froze and this happen when I was about to leave, and before I left, the last file in its scanning was a temporary internet file xpat[1].js I tried again, and it did the same the thing, this time stopping with xd_receiver[7].htm I don't know what to do but I'll run the scan again and will update soon.

I almost forgot to ask... what do you have loaded at startup? OEM's are notorious for bloating up their systems and loading everything at startup, including the kitchen sink. Hit the Windows Logo key, type msconfig. Hit enter, click the startup tab... list everything that's loaded... or take a screen shot and post it.

If the PC is in warranty, send it it and ask them to clean it
If it is not, go get some compressed air. Open your case and blow the air in. Not too close, though. Let the Pc cool first before blowing. Make sure to hold the fan blades with a unused pencil (wooden end) or chopstick so as to not create back voltage. Don't hold the air for too long.
cheers
PS: Always hold the air upright. NEVER INVERT.

A friend of mine suggested turning off the computer, let it cool, and not open it up but from the holes, use the hose part of my vaccumm to clean the inside. Possible?

EDIT: I once heard about a program I can download that can remove files and such that either haven't been used ina very long time or are there just there. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Wow... that's a lotta crap loaded at startup.

Uncheck: adobe acrobat, google toolbar, windows live, daemon tools, alcohol, steam, adobe acrobat, button monitor, adobe reader, java updater, quicktime, itunes, microsoft office.

You have something for Gateway, but I can't see what it is... what is it? Expand the menu. You have 3 listings for Intel, what are they? Do I see amd dual-core optimizer? Uncheck it.

That is one reason. I only have 3 or 4 startup items.

Never heard of Common User Interface. You can uncheck those too: Intel® Common User Interface - igfxtray.exe - Program Information

I have 3 Intel boxes running (P35, P55, P67), none of them have this.

You're on your own with Gateway Go Back... or whatever they're calling it now. It does seem redundant though because 7 already has this feature: system restore... so if you can get by without it, the less loaded at startup the better.

What about what I was asking about; the program I can download that can remove files and such that either haven't been used in a very long time or are there just there.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm afraid I need you to be more specific? If you want to remove files/folders, you don't need to download anything; your fingers do the job, not an additional program.

If you want to remove applications, then use the Control Panel/Uninstall a program. If you want to remove files you don't use/look at/need or want, then just right click and delete them.

Is there something I'm not understanding?
