computer crash/rebooting

Six weeks ago I have bought new computer, basically for file archiving in one small office. Configuration is: MB ASUS P5Q-EM, CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E7400, 2x2GB DDR2 Corsair Dominator PC2-8500, HD 2x SATA II 500GB WD WD5000AAKS, DVDRW ASUS, wireless network card. OS Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OEM, Antivirus F-Prot 64 bit version. Raid 1 was successfully installed.

After two weeks computer starts rebooting with error message "Unknown Hard Error" at Ntdll.dll.

To “resolve” the problem I have formatted both disks and again installed windows, raid, etc. I have also checked memory with several testing programs and it passed without any error.

Few days ago computer starts rebooting again. It is happening once in three days or twice per day. Latest message was:

Is there anything wrong with computer configuration, hardware or something else?

Hi dac and welcome

I supect that is being caused by DEP. dep, or data execution prevention is built in to prevent apps (and virus) from launching in protected memory space.

Its located in system control panel>advanced>performance>dep. If this is the only app crashing it you can enter it as an exception and dep will exclude it. if there are more your can even turn it off see pic

continuing crashing

Thank you for fast respond.

This morning when I entered into office I found blue screen with message “PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA”. After manual rebooting, computer is working fine.

As you advised I have tried to exclude svchost.exe as an exception in DEP but message was “you can not set DEP attributes to 64 bit executables”.

Again, I am coming back to my initial doubt that something is wrong with memory. I do not have replacement DDR2 modules. Somehow I believe that it should be replaced?

the next thing i would do:
Open a elevated command prompt
type: SFC /scannow

If you suspect the memory and want to test it, try MEMtest 86+. run it for 5 passes and it can confirm or rule out RAM modules as the culprit.

Make sure all drivers are up to date.


Common causes of a Page Fault error can be:
corrupted NTFS volume, hardware (RAM or Video RAM), services, or antivirus software.
