Today was the first time I tried to use my Samsung laser printer since i had upgraded the win 10 latest version. Not the Oct. one. I have dual system win 10 and 7. I usually use win 7 for most stuff. When I turned on my printer, I noticed that i did not hear the windows tone usually one hears when starting a printer. …and yet my printer came on and lit up and did its usual step by hearing its ready. When i click Print, nothing happens. I changed usb port, no change. Device manager doesn’t even show the printer…so i can’t remove the driver and hope windows would install it after a reboot. Samsung is now handled by HP. I went there for support and do see my printer, but alas, got a message that support is down and to try later. I then tried win 10 and its the same story there…although, device manger there does show a printer quege…i believe its called. …but no driver is seen to remove there either. I assuming that the recent upgrade to 1809 win 10 screwed up. When i click on the taskbar hidden icons on win 7, i do see the Samsung easy printer manager…listed.

No connect/disconnect noise in 10 either? I would try another USB cable just to be safe. Does the USB ports see flash drives still?

Right. Printer lights up, makes it start up sound in the printer itself, but not in windows. If your referring to the usb ports shown in D. M., yes there are many, but my printer is not shown there. Been trying for the past 2 days...just removed the printer driver in printermanagement and thought by clicking on my downloaded printer driver which worked just fine this past March, and still not see it. When i tried to reinstall the driver it gave me two options....one is to just install it ( which I chose ) and the other was to extract it. Why would i get that second offer is puzzling to me..I thought i did extract it back in March, so that is why i chose the first choice.

I asked about the flash drive as your device manager shows ports that does not mean they work, test with a random flash drive and make sure it can come up. Since you got an update to 10 I would think software but since it also affects the 7 install it could be hardware as well. So check that first and then go from there. What printer model is it?

If this is a problem in your windows 10 installation, you are asking in the wrong place.

If it is a problem in your win7 installation, you are in the correct place.

If it is a problem with both, then it is unlikely to be a printer software issue.

I have had a similar issue. Fixed by:

Printer attached and switched on

restarting, going into bios, looking under usb devices and changing Epson Storage Device from "Auto" to "floppy".

I have no idea why, but it worked.

Difficult to know from your first post.
I thought i mentioned that its not working in both systems and that I am more interested in my Win 7 system cause i like it better than win 10.

Sounds like they are saying after a 10 update it affected both of a dual OS install.

Yes, sorry i did use a flash drive and it was good, so its not the port...Its samsung ML 2950 laser printer

This is the last driver they made and it apparently works on 7 as well as 10.

I have no idea why, but it worked. It might not work if you have disabled floppy drives in your bios.
It gets a drive letter and prints fine.

You were right...it was the cable...and your the only one that mentioned it. At first i thought of it, but when i turned on my printer, it lit up and it did its 'ready' noise, so that thought immediately vanished. I know that the printer is also connected to an ac outlet...but apparently, that was the reason the printer lit up. Thanks.

Glad you got it figured out, rule one is always check the physical connections then recheck them again. :)
