I would uninstall Avast to try Microsoft Security Essentials to see the difference. You can always reinstall Avast if you prefer it.

You have run a full MBAM scan after updating it? Now try one with SUPERAntiSpyware. Check Browser Add-Ons and Extensions to see if invaders have crept in, allowing only Flash and your Reader helper.

Then run SFC /SCANNOW Command.

If not better then work through the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Compare the install you have to the perfect install compiled in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You may have programs running at startup that is causing this issue. Please see this tutorial to temporary disable them and see if the issue is resolved:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Malware is also always a possibility.

Uninstall Avast which no one here recommends and try Microsoft Security Essentials to see the difference.

Greg in all respect possible, I would be careful about speaking for others. With the way that is worded it comes across as the product is crap and should not belong on a system. I see no major issue with avast. It's a fine AV. Sometimes just to naggy about its paid program. I will state it is a good idea to uninstall a 3rd party antivirus program and test with Microsoft security essentials. Since it comes from Microsoft it is far less likely to cause issues. As a test. If the issue occurs with avast uninstalled, it is not avast and you can then go back to installing it. Disabling it from startup however usually should suffice.

I highly recommend avast! Everyone here was AVAST! Fanboys, what happened?
Please download AdwCleaner:
http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner
Save to the desktop.

Close all open programs.
To run the program, right-click AdwCleaner.exe and select: Run as Administrator

Click on Search and confirm the prompt.
After the program finishes, click the Report button. Please post the contents of the C:\AdwCleaner[Rx].txt in your next reply. In the reply window click the "#" icon at the top and paste the log text between the [code ] Paste Here [ /code] tags.

Do NOT perform the delete part before I or someone else can read the log.

To delete:

Run AdwCleaner once again.
This time click on:Delete, you will be asked to reboot to finish cleaning.
When done, please post the content of the C:\AdwCleaner[Sx].txt in your reply as outlined above.

hey buddy, I guess i know what is your problem , you see i have an acer with the same specs of your laptop except that mine has originally 4GB ram that i upgraded later to 8GB .
there are some stuff that i do once my computer get slow :

1- you're browser, now using a light and good browser (such as chrome or firefox) can make your system run comfortably while safari for example take a lot of memory even if you had plenty of it, also toolbars , they destroy your browser and pc because each one of them is like normal applciation that autoruns when the browser runs therefore make sure you uninstall all of them from all the browsers

2-Go to computer > uninstall or a change program, now a list will appear of all the programs and toolbars as well that are installed on your pc so take a look at them and see what you need and uninstall the others but make sure you don't delete any drivers or any Microsoft thing cuz these are important, however delete any thing you don't know or don't use , and by that you have not only made your computer no less than 200% faster but you probably freed a lot of space from you're hard drive

3- now the third solution is not as good as the previous tow but it is a must , make sure to store your personal files on a different partition that the system is installed for example use the F driver instead of c

4-let the system update it is important thing for good security and performance

after doing these steps restart your system and see if any thing have changed which I'm sure you will see a huge difference , however if non of this worked all you can do is to format you laptop and reinstall the OS .
