Computer stuck at "starting windows" screen

I recently bought an external hard drive and usually i remember to unplug it before i start my computer, however this time i forgot. this caused my computer to go to the "starting windows' screen when i booted it up at which point it stayed stuck there until i restarted the pc. at that point it came up with f11 boot menu, f6 quick flash etc. then goes to a screen saying "launch startup repair (recommended) and "start windows normally". If i press start windows normally it just goes back to the starting windows screen and stays stuck there regardless of me removing the external HDD. If i press launch startup repair it say's "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically" and comes up with error code "0x0" for all ltests it performs which include check for update, system disk test, disk failure diagnosis. Root cause found: bad hard disk. restoring my system to and earlier date has no effect, and when i open command prompt it shows X:\windows\system32> even though my system had no x drive prior to this event (external hdd is still unplugged at this point). Entering UEFI and changing boot priority between AHCI P0: WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3AO and AHCI P2: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222, the only 2 options, had no effect on anything i mentioned above. This has always been an issue with my computer and is not unique to the HDD, ive just always remembered to unplug any usb's. I looked up a lot of fixes on another pc and didn't have any luck, and was wondering what the next course of action might be.

I'm 90% sure all i need to do is get my pc to boot from the D: Drive instead of X: Drive im just not sure how to go about that

Have to load your computer BIOS and select were you would like your machine to boot from. hope that helps

Sounds like s/he's loaded the BIOS already and it hasn't worked.

Can you update your system specs, please? All the information that you can give would be very helpful, and will greatly improve the help you'll get from us.

Is this a laptop?

And do you have a Windows disk in the CD/DVD drive? That may explain drive "X"
