Computer to TV audio

Hi all--

I want to connect my W7 desktop with my TV.

The audio out ports on my computer are a mini plug (green) and what appears to be a single RCA type plug (labeled "digital audio out"(orange.))

The audio in port on the TV is what appears to be a single RCA type plug (green.)

What cable solution do I employ?

I'm under the impression that a stereo mini plug is an analog solution, but I'll be surprised to even find one that ends in a lone green RCA type plug.

Any help/knowledgeable advice is sincerely welcomed and appreciated.

The green wire will get you simulated surround only "Use Dolgy pro logic" which sounds pretty decent on my Sony BD player. I have an old PC in the living room so there is no digital out for it. Still sounds ok though.

If you have a newer board you can pick up the HDMI surround signal from the GPU. The GPU can usually be connected to the mother board by a small dual wire which makes it so the digital signal is output through the GPU when using an HDMI connection. That is a true 5.1 digital out signal.

The pin location for the HDMI is different depending on the motherboard. With the small wire connected you would have digital sound out from the GPU through the HDMI wire into the TV. Not all boards support this feature. You would need to look up where this connection is on your board. On my EVGA board it connects to a pinout location just under my GPU. With ATI it's built into the card.

You can also pick up the true surround digital signal from the SPDIF out port of a good sound card.

Thanks chev65, but I think you knowledgeable advice is so far over my head that I have to force my head down to type this.

Do I need a S/PDIF cable? And if yes is the answer, why is the TV audio in port green?

I appreciate your time chev65, but I couldn't explain the difference between a pin out and a pin up.

Yes the green one is just a standard mini plug. It usually plugs in right next to the HD15 "PC in" connection on the TV. As for the true surround signal from the GPU "graphics card" It's a bit confusing until you see it hooked up, then it becomes amazingly simple.
