Confused over ssd installation

Hi all.
I am struggling with my ssd, I installed it and reduced the size of my hdd to allow it to be cloned to ssd.
loned it would not boot, after trying fixboot it would not do it, windows repair disk would not repair it, and w7 install disk would not either.
My mobo is a uefi dual boot and SSD was set to GPT, so reformatted it and set it to MBR, still had problems would not boot.
I hunted the net still confused, but thought I had cracked it when using easy bcd.
However struggled with that:
Used easybcd by doing bcd deployment to the ssd drive, i also added windows installation.
when computer was started it gave me two windows installations to boot from, sadly both are my hdd, when i disconnect sata cable and boot from hdd(leaving sdd connected), it boots, take me to the user screen, I click user and it accepts it, but then waits 5 minutes and gives me a blank screen (mouse still moves), stating that my windows installation is illegal.

All I want is to be able to boot from SSD, then format HDD and use it as storage

I thought I was computer literate, now not so sure, alladvice gratefully apprecited

When I switched from a hard drive to an SSD, I tried several clone programs and never had success. I finally did a "disc image" (backup) of the hard drive to a USB connected hard drive, using Macrium Reflect. I then "restored" the disc image to the new SSD and it all worked well.

One thing to consider, when you "clone" a drive it copies everything, bad sectors, corrupted files, blank spaces, etc. A disc image does not do that.

Why even do a clone.

Unplug the power cable from the hard drive and do a clean install to the ssd. (Very Important)

Plug the hard drive back in and use the one time boot menu key to boot into the ssd when you want to work on it. When you`re happy with the ssd, format the hard drive, you can then start using it for storage.

Make sure you connect the ssd to sata port #1 on the motherboard when you`re all done.

SSD Sata port #1
Hard drive/s Sata port #2 #3 etc.
