What happens to copyNpaste in Safe Mode [with or without Networking]? If everything is aok within Safe Mode, that is a good sign; the fix might not be so geeky. If not, you have a corrupted explorer.exe OPerations, and that will not be an easy fix, at least, it sure wasn't an easy fix when such happened to me some time ago.
Do you have your data folders and files on a separate partition, or, are they in the same partition as your Windows? This might be a great time to use something similar to Macrium Reflect to ensure you have restorable full images of your data on trusted external media. If a Windows reInstall is called for, your data folders and files should be backed up. If Macrium Reflect cannot do a reliable backup [I think it also uses explorer OPerations], then you will have to use a Puppy Linux usb or dvd boot and copy off your data folders and files, I think Linux has its own file manager and does not need Windows explorer.exe.

The first thing I would try is to open a command prompt and run the command: sfc /scannow

This will scan your system to check for missing or repair corrupted system files.

"explorer.exe OPerations" simply means all the possible actions that explorer can do at the hand of the end-user and by Windows OS itself [that which is done behind the scenes]. If I recall at least one step out of several [done with abandonment] steps: tweaking.com's Windows Repair [portable version - booted via usb stick or dvd into Safe Mode with Networking] running defaults, with items 26 & 27 checked, restarted twice, waited for Windows and desktop to settle down.

There were a couple of explorer.exe utilities that would reRegister all associated explorer files -- I think; I may be confusing the utilities for fixing internet explore [iexplore.exe].

Whenever I get Explorer crashes, I suspect BHOs ... browser helper objects.

Install Shell Ex View. It's free online.

It will show you the Explorer "helpers" that have been installed. They add functionality to Explorer. But if one is poorly written it may cause an Explorer crash.

In Shell Ex View I sort by Company name. I leave alone those made by Microsoft. They won't cause problems. Those from any other company are suspect, especially those from no-name Joe Blow organizations.

Example: On my new work laptop I see well over 100 items from Microsoft (safe), 4 from TechSmith/Snagit (known safe after years of use), 6 from Tracker Software (also safe), 4 from Nvidia (safe), 1 from Synaptics (touch pad helper, safe), 2 from Intel (safe), 5 with no company name (but the Extension Name is Google Drive Shell extension, so it's safe), 1 from Crystal Rich (Lock Hunter program, safe), 2 from Logitech (keyboard/mouse helpers, safe), and 1 from Cyberlink (DVD player, safe).

I see 4 from Alexander Roshal (WinRar program). This is a Joe Blow name that might arouse suspicion. But it this case I know it's safe. I've used WinRar for years without problems.

Then there are 6 from IvoSoft. I've not seen these before. I'm not having Explorer problems, so I'll leave them alone. But if I were having problems I would disable all 6 of them. Just highlight all 6, then right-click and choose Disable Selected Items. Then kill and restart Explorer. If Explorer now runs without crashing, I'd know that I had found the culprits.
