Hi. I'm new to these forums, but you all seem like a good bunch. Either way, let me give you a quick back story of my problem. I was doing a disk cleanup and it said that I had 165 gigabytes of temporary files, which I removed, which threw my computer into a state of disrepair where it wouldnt boot.

I started to troubleshoot using bootrec from the command prompt and I ran all the fix commands. When I ran rebuildBCD it said that total found windows installations was zero. I tried to troubleshoot it not detecting my os but I wasn't too successful.

I ended up moving the BCD from my recovery (D) partition to my C (os) partition to fix a issue with a missing boot manager, it still won't detect my os in bootrec but the os loads(but does not boot) now so ill fix it later.

From there I ran startup repair and it said that the root cause was that boot critical file C:/windows/system32/drivers/acpi.sys is corrupt. I then ran SFC scannow which found corrupt files but was unable to fix them. I don't have and I am unable to obtain a installation disk so I don't have a good copy of the corrupted files. So from here I have a few questions.

1. Would I be able to repair the corrupt files without a installation disk or otherwise get it to boot so I can save some files I deleted the backup for?

2. If I use Dell Backup and Recovery to reinstall windows 7 will it put my files in a windows.old folder? Does DBARs restore my device function re install Windows out does it simply preform like a repair upgrade?

Just to recap, as it stands I can't boot because of corrupted boot files and I would like to be able to save my files which I know are still on my C partition because I checked via notepads open function. Any way to get it to boot(fix the corrupted files), reinstall/recover windows 7 while keeping my files or otherwise copy my files onto a external hard drive so I can clean install Windows without losing anything. Thanks for your help in advance, and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
