You can run the game in a resolution that matches the aspect ratio of your monitor.

BusOfTheUndead is right. Counter-Strike Source isn't a very demanding game. It's old too (I don't say it isn't popular). Putting the game in 1440x900 for your 19" will give better results. You will lose some FPS but nothing too dramatic. Your Quad-Core and graphic card is easily able to run CS in full quality with good FPS.

If you still doesn't want to do that, I suggest putting your Windows resolution in 800x600 and then play Counter-Strike in 800x600.

Right click steam icon on bottom right > Games > right click Counter-Strike (under My Games tab) > Properties > Set Launch Options

In the command line, type "-full", without the quotation marks of course. This will force CS to run in fullscreen.

I have a Windows screen resolution of 1680x1050.

Like you I like to play CS in a low resolution of 640x480 with 32x AA
I also found that I had the black bars down the sides but I fixed this by going into the nVidia control panel and selecting the graphics card to perform scaling rather than leaving it to my screen.

eewwee try adding this to your launch parameters for cs: -bpp 32

why would you want AA? AA is just like turning up the resolution except worse.... its better to have the resolution be set to the native resolution of your screen then useing AA with a low rez

The thing with counterstrike is if you're a "hardcore" player then getting the game setup to your preferences is very important.
Playing CS 1.6 on anything above 640x480 ruins my game, changing the resolution completely changes the feel of the mouse, the amount you have to move the mouse across the mat to achieve a 360 degree movement increases and the sensitivity feels different.
I started playing CS back in 2000 and played with 640x480 ever since.

I turn on AA because on a flat widescreen monitor at 640x480 the players heads are too jagged and since this is what you're primarily aiming at smoothing the heads over was a must.

It's one of those things if you're one of those serious CS players, gota have the right mouse, the right mouse mat, mouse skates and mouse bungee's, the right headset and the right resolution all of which is going to be different from person to person.

In the graphics options it won't show the widescreen resolutions until you switch the aspect to yours, 16:10 or 16:9, which ever you have. After you do that it'll show the higher resolutions, I play CS:S at 1680x1050 with all settings maxed.

Well,1st off all thanks u guyz.
I didn`t tell u in the last post that I love to play it in 1024x786 resolution...
That`s not a problem...
In the earlier win that I had,it worked really nice, and there was no problem at all...now,I think the problem is that I have win that is x64,not x32...
I tried to run it in d3d and it work just fine, but it slows down a little bit every few seconds...:/

dc187 thank u a lof for ure help, but i must admit that I`m little bit stupid about changing any properties about my graphic card or something similar.:)
I didn`t understood almost anything what u sad about "selecting the graphics card to perform scaling rather than leaving it to my screen".....

I`m sad little girl who really loves to play cs...:)
Even thinking that maybe i should install xp again.....:/

An I forgot to tell u that cs won`t run as open gl,it returns to softwer mode..because of that i tried to run it on d3d and it works...but not as earlier..

And my graphic card is-NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nforce 430..or wathever.:))

it shouldn't be the freq, it should be the gpu scaling of monitor scaling. (my monitor and gpu can scale)
