Cpu cooler for overclocking

Oh I misunderstood it then, and I googled ambient so I guess when talking about ambient temps you mean room temperature right? I guess my temps are good then since I got a small room with air being completely still and even worse when I close the door, thanks for clearing it up for me

It gets confusing as were all looking to reduce temps and if we can lower them enough then we raise them up again with a more aggressive overclock....lol. All this to get a fraction of extra performance out of our rigs or until they begin to smoke and go up a big ball of fire ! Heck in the winter time all you need to do is add a couple of sweaters and open a window and you can super cool your rig.......lol I watched a video of a guy doing that I believe it was in Germany and he placed his computer near his window with it slightly open and it was as if liquid nitrogen was being pored onto it.

Andreas W,
20C was the case temp while outside ambient was 19.3 with idle cores at 40C. All arguments about cooling must always begin with ambient temps and there's not a passive cooler that cools below ambient.
Ambient temperature is a good point. My rig is in the basement and my ambient temps range from 16.5C to about 23.5C.

With an open door I think I have about 24C and when its closed about 28-30C or thats what it feels like atleast I sweat sitting at the computer sometimes when the door is closed ^^ planing on putting in a fan here just need to know, I got a really tiny room so have to put it on a shelf

It gets confusing as were all looking to reduce temps and if we can lower them enough then we raise them up again with a more aggressive overclock....lol. Haha that does sounds cool wished I could try it at and see how much it would actually help

:D I couldn't imagine how it would be like when i'm in a such atmosphere since i live in a country with avg temp 35C. I'll push my i5 2500K to 5 ghz for daily use. To make it worse my house without AC & my room temp's 36C ...

silverstormz,
That's great news on the temps and oc. How do have it configured in your case? Next time you open it up take some pictures and post them. I'm considering turning my H100 fans from case air out to outside air in with a air filter arrangement? It's a ton of work for maybe a degree or two but the positive pressure inside the case would climb and I'm thinking that would help with dust as well?

Well now that we all understand that all temps start with ambient temps, (room temps). The cpu is the most heat producing part in the computer that is why they have to have a cooler. No two cpu produce heat the same when overclocked. That's why we use programs to monitor the temps. Raising the vcore volts on a cpu will raise the temps more than any other setting. One or two tenths can cause heat to rise quickly. Idle temps mean very little and full load temps mean a lot. That's why we use Prime 95. Unless you want to let the smoke out of your cpu never overclock more that your cpu cooler can handle. Saving a few dollars on a cooler and destroying a cpu and motherboard does not make dollars and cents/sense. Cpu coolers need help and that is why we research cases and fans for proper air flow. What ever overclock setting work on one computer may or may not work on other computers. No to cpu, ever if both are the same brand and part # will clock the same and produce the same heat. Print this post and keep it handy. In most cases it will stop you from making a toaster out of your computer. If you bother to read it before getting carried away with your overclock.!cid_B0AE90D810E042FCBBB3AB186FEE2FB3@JACK.png

Stable is good but stable and cool is better. If your Arctic Silver Compound is applied correctly your temp will get better with time. My little list was just a few truism that I think one should keep in mind when overclocking. Kind of like a refresher course to keep one out of trouble.

Exactly and they have perfect coverage, but when this is old or you remove the cooler for maint. or such then clean and apply the AC5.
