Hard to nail this down to any specific forum so I'll just as this here.
A bit of a history primer.
When I was using Windows XP Pro SP3 on my Quad Core Q6600 I started overclocking it a bit. I'd put a ~13MHz bump into the Front Side bus with Intel's application for my motherboard (278.9MHz vs. 266) working out to running the processors at 2510MHz. It worked great. With a little voltage bump the overclock really helped things out with that archaic OS. Never had heat issues, lockups or data problems.
Well fast forward to this week. I've got Windows 7 HP 32bit installed and am loving it. Just for giggles I downloaded CPUID and TMonitor to see what was happening under the hood. I was surprised to say the least. Seems W7 enables the speedstep technology. For the most part I am using a 1675MHz CPU. Not much of anything gets it to switch to the full speed.
Is everyone's doing this?
It's nice because my processor is running a lot cooler. 44C vs. 50C on average. (hot case not much I can do about that)
