My laptop is crashing every few minutes and I'm not sure why. I've downloaded the Debugging Tools for Windows but it says it doesnt have the symbols necessary for my dmp.

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Sevenforums!

A few questions to help us solve your issue:
  1. What version of Windows 7 and where did you get it?
  2. Have you updated the BIOS in the lappy to latest version?

The two most important questions:

How long have you been using the OS
Did you do a clean install or an upgrade?

Sorry about the brevity of my post. I don't have much time between crashes :)

It is Windows 7 x86 Professional. I've had it installed since around October. It was a clean install. This crashing activity started today.

I have been telling posters to use Malwarebytes for months. I did not need it, I know what I am doing. Well, today, I downloaded and sure enough, I had one malware. I got rid of it quickly.

Yes, it absolutely is. My employer has purchased me an MSDN subscription which is where I downloaded the ISO I used for my install. 100% legit.

Thank you. I am running a malwarebytes scan now. Event Viewer indicates 10 critical errors in the last 24 hours:

Malwarebytes reports that my computer had no malware. I installed a few things in the last few days. A visual c++ 2005 thing needed for a softphone I was using and I updated my video driver.

I have uninstalled the driver, the softphone app, and the c++ thing and my laptop seems stable. I am going to try installing things one at a time ahe nd figure out what is causing my problem.

I appreciate the help and suggestions.

Also, I ran memtestx86 and let it run for about 3 hours. In that time, it found over 200 errors. It did not specify what type of errors or the severity. Does any type of error showing up indicate I need new RAM? Also, does that program (memtest) ever finish the test?

Its suggeted that the test run overnight, about 6 hours. If it showed so many errors that is probably where the problem is.

Type event viewer in search and take a look at the errors that are reported.

So after uninstalling your vid drivers the system is stable. Cool, glad I could help!

Memtest found errors... What made you run memtest, have you recently added memory? Have you had other issues that make you suspect memory?

Yes, I updated my drivers to a different release and things have been stable. Thank you.

I ran memtest because I saw someone mention it in another thread and I was curious. I had several errors over the hours I let it run.

If you had several Errors in Memtest then I'm afraid the problem is bad Memory. Make sure it place correctly on the MOBO clean the dust it with a dry cloth see whether that makes any difference if that fails better replace them.

Good Luck,
Captain
