Crashing with USB Device

This happened to me about a month ago and people were telling me it was a un-stable overclock so I lowered it back to to 3.4Ghz from 3.6Ghz. Since then it's been fine until this morning. I went to plug in a usb device and it shut off suddenly like a loss of power then went into a reboot loop. I had to turn off the switch on the psu then turn the switch back on and it booted normally. Event viewer says the shutdown was unexpected. Both times when it crashed I was about to plug in a usb device, the metal on the usb device just touched the usb port, never had it plugged all the way in. Anyone have any ideas???

? Short circuit
? Power surge that the PSU couldn't handle
? Unstable overclock (may have gotten less capable w/age)

Interestingly, I had a Gigabyte board the exhibited similar behavior for me a year or so ago.
Finally my USB ports gave up the ghost and stopped working altogether.
Nothing I could do would fix the USB ports - so I chalked it up to a mobo issue.

On Thursday I wiped the hard drive on it and installed Win7. The USB ports now work perfectly. Go figure!

Well, both times that I was about to plug in a usb device the computer crashes and went into a reboot loop. I never had it plugged in, just touched the usb port. I was about to plug it in to the front of my computer which uses the usb ports that came with my HAF 922, not on the back to my motherboard. If it was a unstable overclock wouldn't it crash when under load like when I was gaming ALL yesterday, not after being idle overnight. I'm getting a new hard drive in about 2 weeks since this one is dying with age :( I would do a motherboard bios update If I knew how??? I'm using the F1 bios, the F5 bios is out now.
