Solved Creating image using acronis

Ok, I'm confused.

wilfj said: "Gee, RC7100 clearly stated no image backup to cd/dvd or external harddrive for security reasons. A network or internal H/D is the only allowed method."

And tw33k said: "I just tested it as well and had no option to restore from my external drive"

Are you guys talking about Acronis True Image Home or about Windows 7's built-in backup app? Both are mentioned in this thread, but Acronis TI Home definitely lets me do an image backup to external USB hard drives.

SIW2:

What functions are you referring to??

I just pulled down all the menus in my version (WD) and poked the icon. I got no errors or nags to buy something else.

I have no intention of installing and uninstalling that enormous thing again.

From memory - they were the intersting options - differential ? for example - see if that is on the next menu. If not, WD have removed the pretense at that function to save annoying people.

I agree it does get turnaround:
1... win7 backup states you cannot use this function to backup to disks or a external hard drive for security reasons. It has nothing to do with Acronis11.
2... I gave Acronis11 the boot about 2 hours ago and will just simple do a reload of Win7 and call up my data from my remote hard drive. Finished, no scowing around with "I hope" 3rd party software.
If win7 is allowing you to do a backup to a external hard drive via Acronis great and I hope you can recover your data.
God Save the Queen.

How about trying Clonzilla? I've been using it for a few months cloning hard drives. It's free and open source.

Thanks I''l take a look, better then paying the $50 bucks on another "Monster world" program.. why do they make them so complex? I hope they will take a page from MS, Win 7 has to be a winner. :D. If it's not complex it's not intelligent, how wrong that can be .....
