Solved cursor jumping as I type

Crazy new problem here as I type. For some unknown reason my cursor has been "jumping" from the line I am typing to other places like the find box, the address line, to a previous line in my text. In fact it just now jumped back 3 spaces on the same line that I was typing. At first I thought it was because I must be hitting a key next to the letter chosen or that the side of my palm was hitting another key. Even when I (just happened again) one finger peck, it still does it on its own. Might anyone here speculate as to what this strange behavior is being caused by??

Your ALT key may be stuck on. That would explain why it's jumping to menus or the address bar. Does typing the letter "f" open the file menu? If so, you have a stuck ALT key.

Thanks Mellon Head, but it didn't jump. Tried typing with alt key pressed then released and with alt key static. No luck. Appreciate the effort.

Darn. I was hoping that was it. Do you have another keyboard you can try, just in case it's faulty? Or is this a laptop? If it's a laptop, it could be a flaky touchpad.

Haha. No its a laptop but you raise an interesting issue with keys being stuck. Usually, but not always, the jumping occurs when I am at the end of the sentence or hit the backspace key or the period. I will try to be more observant and see if some kind of pattern is prevalent. Thanks for your concern and input.

Generally this is caused by the drivers for the touchpad, see if you can find some newer ones - if you list the make and model I'm sure somebody will point you in the right direction.

Even if I exclusively use a mouse only??

Yes, if you only use a mouse then try disabling the touchpad.

You might try to adjust the sensitivity,
Still might need the make and model but if you go to your control panel and click on Mouse,
You should see Mouse Properties,
And Device settings,
Touch%20pad%20section%201.jpg

Then on mine Touch sensitivity on on the very bottom,

Just out of curiosity .... your system specs says it is a desktop. Was there a touchpad present?

Sometimes its as easy as uninstalling the driver for the mouse in Device Manager, reboot using the touchpad to reinstall the mouse driver.

Other things to try are changing the batteries and the USB port on a wireless mouse, and pressing the Reset button underneath.

Does the problem happen when you use the same mouse on another PC?

I just have the laptop and don't use the mouse anywhere else. I am keeping track of all the suggestions I have received here in case disabling the touchpad doesn't work. I appreciate your suggestions.

I have a laptop (see previous posts). Don't have any idea how you know my system specs. I don't believe I entered any since this is my first Acer product and am usually too embarrassed to ask many questions here.

Is the issue solved? If not please mark it Unsolved in thread tools at top. If so please let us know what worked to help others.

Never be embarassed to ask questions here. We are all learning here. The more questions you ask, the more you will learn and know. :geek:

So far so good with disabling touchpad. We'll call this issue "solved" until it might happen again. Again, thanks to all for your suggestions and advised.
